Sarah's Story
Life
I currently live in the San Juan mountain range of Colorado in Mineral County. My husband passed away 3 years ago and I am a widow. I have been retired for 20 years. I enjoy ATV's, snowmobiling and taking part in community service. In the winter months there are 750 residents in the entire county. We live 80 miles from the closest Walmart and our little town of Creede is the only town in our county. We had six children between us, all teenagers when we married, and we somehow survived. I have three grandchildren to light up my life. The reward for not killing our kids !
I went back to college after having my 3 children. I worked as the first woman Quality Assurance Engineer at General Dynamics on the F-16 program. I transfered to Flight Test Engineering as a Flight Test Control Engineer and then as a Specialist in Flight Test.
My husband and I lived in Turkey for 3 years working for General Dynamics setting up an F-16 aircraft factory for the Turkish government. I traveled to Air Force Bases within the U.S. and also traveled to support our co-producers and foriegn Air Forc...Expand for more
es in Denmark, Norway, Belgium and Holland. I loved my career and our product. It was very challenging, stressful and exciting. We traveled extensively visiting many foriegn countries while we lived in Turkey. We bought a motor home when we retired and traveld the U.S. for nine years and then bought our home in CO.
I had to quit school in the 10th grade to help my Mom with my brother and sister. I always regretted not being able to graduate from North Side, go to the Prom, and to Class Reunions. I take every available opportunity to encourage young people to finish their educations. It is much harder to do it later. The rewards of going back and finishing were great for me.
I am now a Chaplain in the Billy Graham Disaster Rapid Response Team. I am heavily involved in my Church and go on Mission trips to help in rebuilding from disasters. I work with the Christian Women's Job Corps helping women get traning and job placement. I am handy with a miter saw and most power tools and love to work with wood, be it building a fence or an end table or a bench for the yard. Life is good.
