Sarah's Story
Hi Everyone,
I'm Sarah Kearns, Class Secretary for our junior and senior years. I am a retired high school teacher of English.
I have been married for thirty-five years to my boyfriend who took me to our Senior Prom in 1971, James Garfield Person. In July of 1975, he and I moved to Onslow County, NC, after I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC in December, 1974. We raised our two sons, James Delbert Gyamil Person, now 28, and Jamel David Gershaad Person, now 24, in the country town of Richlands. I received my Master of Education degree from East Carolina University and my Doctor of Biblical Studies degree from North Carolina College of Theology.
It wasn't until I was a senior homeroom teacher that I learned it was the responsibility of the officers to organize class reunions. Our class sponsors did not tell me that. So I apolo...Expand for more
gize to all of you, especially to those who have worked to organize a few class reunions.
It is my desire for the Class of 1971 to celebrate our 40th year out of high school with a grand reunion attended by all surviving classmates and their families in 2011! If any of you know how to contact those who have been planning the past reunion, please give them my email address. I know how to contact Lottie Alford and Jacqueline Scales, but if you know how to contact others, please help me by getting permission to give me their email addresses or by asking them to contact me.
Also, all who would like to be on the committee, please let me know. I hope all who have planned the previous reunions will also be on the committee. I would like to have a committee meeting in July so that we can set a date early so that everyone can mark their calendars.
