Sarah's Story
Life
After graduating from Kent State, I moved to California and then got married shortly after. I'm now living in the L.A. area (Beverly Hills) with my husband. We don't have any kids right now but would like to in the not-too-distant future.
School
If I could do it over again, I'd have tried harder during freshman year of h.s. so that my overall GPA would've been what it should've been, to put me in the top 10. I would have also (and should/could have) went away to a more prestigious college for my undergrad.
College
I went through a huge vision loss in the middle of college and had to take some time off to adjust to that and also went away to train for a guide dog, so that slowed me down a bit. I graduated from Kent State with my Bachelors in 2004. I also attended Stanford as a visiting student for the summer of 2000 (right before losing my vision later that fall). orphanage in the Dominican Republic during the summer of 1999.
Update: In May 2009 I completed a certificate in Personal Financial Planning at UCLA.
Workplace
I work as one of three financial advisors on a team at a large brokerage firm. I recently wrote a book on investments that I plan to have published after my firm's compliance department approves it and gives me the go ahead. But I've been in that compliance stage for a couple of months now so I don't know how long this is going to drag on, or how much difficulty they are going to give me in approving it. (In this industry you cannot write or say anything publicly without it going through the firm's compliance dept first. I understand why the rules are there, but I also know they can choose to be more picky than is necessary...)
I am also working on the requirements to become a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and expect to earn that designation in 2010.
