Scott's Story
Life
I don't think that I will take the 4000 word option given to me. I just wanted to put something in writing that let all of you know that I think about my days at MVHS from time to time. I haven't seen any of you for 40 years. I find that odd since some of you are so vivid in my memory. I hope that life has been kind to you and that you all have good memories of me. I look back at the young man I think I was and hope that others saw me in a favorable light. I am not stuck in high school, but I do wonder what you all have become. High school was a great time for me. I guess I was stuck in high school for a long time, for when I graduated from Randolph Macon, I moved to Texas, got a Masters Degree and embarked on a 31 year career as a high school teacher and coach. It was a great life. I stuck to small towns(between one and three stop lights) and small schools for the most part and enjoyed every bit of it. I have been in Ratliff stadium in Odessa( of Friday Night Lights fame) and seen kids I helped grow up turn into good adults. So I had ...Expand for more
a great career. I retired in 2003 and am a real estate agent in San Angelo, Texas. It's a pretty interesting gig too. If any of you ever need a realtor, let me know. Did I just say that?I can't help myself; I'm programmed to ask for business. It's funny. I used to think of success in terms of number of games won; now it's number of units sold. Life changes. I have four kids. Kris, 33; Kathryn, 28; Kort, 7; and Abby(ran out of K's) 6. I will have to work until I'm 90. I have a great wife, Darla, who is a junior high English teacher. Life is wonderful out here in the big empty. The defining statement about West Texas geography is: "There ain't nothing out here, but you can see all of it." Open spaces, friendly people, good weather, great golf courses--what else does a guy need? I don't know if I am coming to the class reunion. It is a long way. I guess on these things the question is: "Do I want all of my friends from MVHS to remain stuck in 1966? Or do I want to see you( and you to see me) in 2007? I guess I'll make that decision later.
