Scott's Story
UPDATE: June 2, 2009
====================
Sherrie and I returned yesterday from a 'graduation' weekend in the Bay Area. My oldest son, Scott Jr. (40 yrs old) received his Masters in Theology. My daughter Mendy graduated as "Valedictorian" from Bishop O'Dowd High School. She gave the farewell address...all caught on video. I am so proud of both if them. Sherrie has returned to college at age 49, will receive her Bachelor of Science in Wine Studies at CWU next year. I'm continuing to design, develop and lease food processing equipment.
Life After WHS:
I went to SMCC, USC, Cal-Berkeley-(BS,Bus Admin). My career has been metal-working and manufacturing engineering and I've been self-employed since 1971. I moved to the Bay Area in '67 and to Wenatchee, WA in '95...married, eight grown children, 3 Yorkshire Terriors & 11 birds. Sherrie and I live in the historic old brick Wenatchee Hotel (1907) in the center of downtown Wenatchee with home, business, her art studio, etc. all in the same building. Our fun times are home-decorating, cooking and entertaining, workouts at Gold's Gym, business travel and frequent visits from our children. All in all, we're happy, healthy, buzy and increasingly reflective about life, old times and old friends...I suppose that comes with age.
Back Then:

ected what I thought of some of those "dumb classes" and subjects I would "never use". I got a "D" in 8th grade metal-shop at Orville Wright. My mother made me take Typing (yeech...I was the only guy in the class...thank Gawd she didn't make me take Business in HS). English was just as boring and Chemistry was the only "F" I couldn't "make up", because I had to take Algebra III three times and Algebra IV twice, just to graduate. They said I wasn't "working up to my potential". But I sure loved Acapella Choir...guess I was secretly preparing for "American Idol".
Then I turned it on in college...a completely different "me"....math, science, gymnastics at SMCC and USC...I became very driven.
Today:
Well, I don't sing any more, or at least not well. My career became Mechanical Engineering and Metal Working. My college degree was Business Administration. I use Algebra, Trig and Calculus on a daily basis. I'm currently designing an Ion Selective probing system for monitoring % calcium in solution, and I write all my own manuals, contracts and briefs. (yes, I've checked my spelling and punctuation).
So what did I learn? I learned all those dumb subjects that I would never use. Guess the joke's on me.
It would be nice to hear from old (meaning "other") classmates...
...thanks for listening
