Scott's Story

Well, I know that many of the people I graduated with from Fourth seem not to remember me. Granted, I wasn't there that long, but I've never been accused of not leaving a lasting impression (good OR bad). I played on the basketball team, so maybe the guys I played with will remember me better. Since graduating from Fourth, my life has been one big roller coaster after another. I believe the Lord sees fit to temper each of us according to His will, no matter what it takes, or how long it takes. I have to say, for all the ups and downs, I wouldn't change a thing (well, maybe one or two)! I left for military training four days after graduation, and served 9 years in the Army Reserve and Active duty. I was in during Gulf War I, and was honorably discharged in April of 1996. I moved to Columbus, Ohio, where almost all my relatives live, because I didn't want to go back to Minnesota. Nothing against the Cities, I just wanted a change, and Columbus has always been where my roots are. After doing nothing but working for about a year, I enrolled at Ohio State University (GO BUCKEYES!!). Taking extra heavy credit loads and going straight thru the summers, I graduated Magna Cum Laude (not bad for someone who was a 'C' student in HS), in only 3 years (2000) with a degree in Classical Humanities, that is, Classical Greek and Latin Languages and a minor in Archaeology. My final quarter at OSU, during the summer of 2000, I studied in an archaeological program with the American Academy in Rome. I spent 3 weeks studying many of the archaeological sites in Rome, and then went to work on an excavation in Pompeii. It was one of the best times of my life! I then went to Greece for a month to travel around and see as many archaeological sites as I could in that country. There is something to be said about seeing and touching history first hand. It humbles you, and makes you realize just how insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things. I also met my match, Cecilia, while at OSU, and we were married. Our son Brandon was born in October of 2000, only 2 mos. after I graduated. Next to my salvation, he is the most precious gift God has seen fit to give this poor wretched sinner. ull advantage, using him to show me what real, honest, truthful love is all about. And thru Brandon I've come to fully understand the tremendous sacrifice God made for us by giving up His Son. Since my graduation from OSU in 2000, I've worked for Accenture, a technology consulting firm, in Real Estate as a residential agent, and am currently working as a Retirement Advisor with a company my stepfather started nearly 20 years ago. I love what I do now, and currently have no plans to change. BTW, I've run into a few of my fellow graduates since graduation in 1987. Connie Winch came into the Saturn Dealership I was working at in the Fall of 1996. Talk about a coincidence! What are the odds that someone you graduated with 9 years earlier and 900 miles away, would walk into a dealership you worked at?!? How crazy is that? Then, about two years ago, I was bored one night and was looking through the Fourth 1987 yearbook and decided to look up my classmates on the internet to see if I could find phone numbers. I found a few and tried to call, I think Dave Harvath was one, but the only one I could reach was Lonnie Hazard. We got to talking and remained in touch. Lonnie credits my phone call (along with a call from the Lord) for his decision to become a missionary to the Phillipines. The crazy thing is, we both have a son born on October 31st, and we are both married to women of Filipino descent! What a coincidence! I guess the Lord had planned that all along just so it would convince Lonnie that he needed to answer a call to preach in the Phillipines! Who would have thought! Lonnie and his family were in Ohio last summer on deputation, and we invited them over to our house for a visit. We had a wonderful time talking about the good old days at Fourth Baptist, and I praise God for the few hours we got to spend together. I know Lonnie will be a blessing anywhere he goes and to whomever is lucky enough to call him friend. If anyone wishes to contact me, you can email me at 'fbond', then 'at', then 'insight dot rr dot com. If I hear from anyone, great, if not, then God bless you all till we meet again standing shoulder to shoulder with our Lord Jesus Christ. Then I bet you'll ALL remember me!
