Scott's Story

Life Lived it up around Columbus and Newark till I met the love of my life Sandy (Dyer, WMHS and LCJVS class of '83) in February of 1982. We married in November of 1985. First child (Jimmy) in 1989, second (Denise) 1991, third (Joesph) 1993, forth (Jeffrey) in 2002. Are we done yet? Who knows? You who knew me best, know that I always "wanted a football team". More to keep you warm at night when your broke! After all, kids are what it's all about. We volunteer around town (youth sports and as much as we can at the High School), keeping it in the community and all! Quite a few of my High School and Grade School friends are still around. Sandy and I moved back to the area (Beechwood) in 1987, back home (on 310) in 1995. It's nice to have the kids in the same house and living on the same farm that I grew up on. Our work place is in town on Main Street (337 S. Main), Sandy or I are always there or at the school sports functions (Watkins Memorial). All of our kids are active Jimmy (Big Sexy, 6'-270lbs)- attending OSU Newark in the fall. Denise - The socialite. always active in everything. She will be attending Ohio Dominican in the fall. Joey (the perfectionist)- wrestling (2006-State 5th placer), drag racing (2006 Division 3 NHRA Champion) and working around the farm with his Grandpa. Jeffrey (the littlest of all Camerons- soon to be in first grade, playing t-ball and hanging out at the race track is his game - and yes he is spoiled by his siblings/baby sitters) at this time is just a fan of all sports that have to do with a ball and water. (Except one, NO soccer kids or parents in this family.) All the kids get good grades in school, have a good sense of humor, treat others with respect and enjoy life. If they didn't, they would get it when they got home. Yes, we still rule with an iron fist, just like we were raised! We say "To hell with being politically correct! We turned out all right." They all make us proud daily. In 2005, I applied for and was appointed by City Council to the Pataskala BZA (Board of Zoning Appeals). (Yes, living 2 miles north of Old Pataskala is now in "The City".) Hoping to help the City in anyway I can and giving back to the community that gave us so much over the years, is the idea. My experience in construction, service, City & State Construction Codes, applying for variances, ETC.. and my love of the community, I thought all would...Expand for more
be beneficial. (It seems we have 2 members of Council that think not.) I hope that I can keep a good attitude towards this work for the years that I plan to be involved, but I see where some people can (and will) make that difficult. Pataskala is still the great place to live that it has ever been. The people have changed and the area growing to fast is a major problem with the City and our Schools, but most of us still appreciate it and all it can give. I personally would like to see more people involved that have vision and leadership qualities better than some that we have now (who seem to have their own agendas), hopefully that will come in time. UPDATE: The powers to be eventually drove me away from this work in 2008. Continually going backwards in all we had accomplished in the previous 3 years was the main reason, along with what I felt were some poor appointments and unprofessional new hires to the Board and the City administration, also helped me determine to give this resignation. Workplace Sandy and I started our own business in 1994. After years of working for other small and large contractors and eventually Carrier Corp, we decided to venture out on our own. (Boy, was that a brilliant idea!)We were fully into it come spring of 1996. First hires (other than Sandy and myself) were in January of 1997. Our company is built on Honest, accurate and dependable service. We have been up to as many as 15 employees and down to as many as three. I moved into the office solely in 2001. (what a mistake!)Back out into the field in 2003. (Yippee!)Working for ourselves and being able to help our kids when they need us, is a big advantage for us. Hopefully it continues to far outweigh the down sides of owning your own business, (which there are plenty). UPDATE: Moved to a new office at 345 S. Main Street in October of 2007 just to see the 337 building catch fire and burn both buildings to the ground on March 6th, 2009. You might have seen it on the net or all the local TV stations did a story during the fire. (the Great Pataskala Downtown fire of 2009) Arson they say was the cause! We have since opened another new office at 351 S. Main Street. (Moving down the block). We ask ourselves all the time "didn't we just do this? and is it still all worth it?" We hope this is to stay. Come see Sandy and me during the street fair come August, we would love to see ya!
