Scott's Story

I am the proud Dad of three christian son's. i have six wonderful grandchildren. I have wonderful wife who has kept me in line now for the last 36 years. I have worked in Quality Control for the past 35 years. I currently work in the Conroe area working four 12 hour days and I get four days off. I have also work part time for the past 11 years as a Third Party inspector in Houston. Hopefully when the time comes to retire from my present job I can do part time inspections to help pass the time. I have had my share of injuries, three knee, two shoulder and three neck surgeires leaving me with three fusions in the neck, C4-C5-C6-C7. I have been hard on my body. Now to add insult to injury two more hand surgires in 2011. I had worn out my wrist bones donig my everyday all day long task. They replaced two bones with a doulbe fusion which 9 months later failed. So just as my luck goes they had to go in and remove them and do another surgery transplanting a tendon from my wrist and building up scar tiisue to replace the bones. This past November I went in for a routine physical and they found blockage in my heart. It was so blocked it wouldn't take a stent. So a few meds everyday and I'm as god as new. The blockage was in a good area that only effected 5% of the heart. God is good!. I pretty much shot the whole year of minimum fishing and playing golf. Well, it's been over a year and now I'm back to my regualr way of life. Golf couldn't be better. LOL. still do what I want to do. Play golf, fish, hunt and work on my property oh by the way we just sold. Great no more back aches. :). I refuse to get old. My wife has pulled 40 lbs off of me over the past 18 months. I figure I need to listen to her and eat only what she feeds me. My wife is a health nut. Totally commited to eating the right stuff. My doctors told me in April 2009 that pain won't get any better and is likely to worsen. So, I turned my life over to her and have been able to get off of all of my meds. It is amazing. Eating healthy has totally changed my life. My new venture is starting a Fishing Guide Service on Lake LIvingston. rodbenderguideservice.com.The inspection work is Houston has slowed down for me. Most of my work was BP related. I have had several fishing trips this year and really like what I do. Maybe this is what I can depend on when I retire. I remain healthy and try to get out on the lake twice a week and the golf course once a week. July 2011. A total shut down this past January. I had two bones fused in my right hand. Here it is July and I'm still down. I miss playing golf. It kind of hinders my fish cleaning abilities a little bit. LOL. It has been a slow recovery but all in all I feel pretty good. I had a new grandson 6 weeks ago. Sure am proud to be a paw paw. I now have three grand children. August 2011 - the right hand has finally started getting better. Life is good. My part time work sarted back up so now I am inspecting a three month long job for Conoco Phillips. It has me working eight days a week. I like to stay busy. November 2011 . More bad news. A blockage in my heart....Expand for more
No stent as med's can fix this. May 2012. Good as new! I have never felt better. Playing golf weekly. Sold my boat. Now shopping for another one. Novenber 2013. My heart is healthy now due to strict diet and a wife that knows how to cook healthy. My trouble in the beginning was sneaking off eating at Hatrtz chicken all too often. No more of those days. There won't be another boat as it's been a tough year. A week before Thanksgiving last year i reinjured my neck. After reviewing new X-rays and MRI's my doctor told me that my condition had worsened. And flat told me you have worked your last day. I think those were the most emotional words I ever heard. I have worked all of my life. She told me I needed to retire. So I did. I had 25 years and 9 months with the Ball Corporation. They were very good to me all of those years. This gives me more time for family and friends. It has helped me spiritually as well. We try to travel every few months taking short trips. We take our RV and find somewhere in Texas we haven't been. We don't travel far as it is difficult to ride long distance due to neck pain. This helps us see more RV parks along our way which gives opportunity to meet a lot of enteresting folks and we get to visit the different local Church's of Christ in that area. A lot of brethren out there I haven't met yet. I'm trying to enjoy what quality time I have left. My grandkids are what keeps me going. We get four of them once a week, they live in the Beaumont area. My newest grandson lives next door. What a blessing. August 2014. My youngest son added a daughter to our family. Unfortunately she was born out wedlock. We seldom get to see her. My son gets her two weekends a month but lives over in the Woodlands area. A bit far to drive out for a visit. He has done very well keeping his new born by himself. I am very proud of him. I can't say I could have done that at his age. After 28 years in the same house we have moved. We bought 11 acres back in March in the Kountze Texas area. I am now asking myself why I bought 10 1/2 acres to much.....laugh! We live in our RV and plan to setup a place here that we can stay most of the year and travel when I am physically able. Plans are for a slab and 50' long cover with a 50'x16' porch to look out over the pasture and tree line. I already have a dozen deer coming out to feed in the evenings. What a pleasure to watch. The house hasn't sold yet. So when it does construction on my new place will begin. Mean while I sit under the awning for coffee in the mornings and iced water in the evenings. By the way, I did add a 14 x 28 man cave just next to the RV. Insulated and air conditioned. Big screen tv, recliner and lots of golf channel. Funny how half of it ended up as my wife's closet....I am fortunate to have half of it for my stuff. That's all I need. I'm a bit spoiled in my old age. I am on Facebook and also had an old web page rodbenderguideservice .com. There are several older photos of my fishing guide service and my place on Lake Livingston. I like to look back at the good ole days every once in a while.
