Scott's Story

Well, I thought I'd post a story here finally! I got on Classmates around a year ago, I'd guess, to find old friends & co-workers. I never "paid-up" for the Gold membership, but I guess it's time for more info. Anyways, here goes: Work Life: I worked at Miami Valley Hospital during & after HS, until 10/20/78. Moved to Houston, TX & worked in a Sherwin Williams warehouse for several months before quitting and getting hired at Cameron Iron Works. I was there for close to 5 years. Still the neatest job I've had! If you like making things, it doesn't come in a much bigger scale than that! I moved back to Ohio in early '84 and worked at Elano Corp. for about a year, then got on at Harrison Radiator, Div. GM. Work there ended for me in the first half of '07, when now Delphi Harrison moved their operations across th Rio Grande to Juarez, MX. Another unemployed time and a brief stint at Lowe's led to a turn back into the medical occupations. I've been at Community Tissue Services as a tissue processor since 6-2-08. In a sterile environment, we process donated cadaver tissue for implants to improve the life quality of patients. Real Life: After our family members had lived in Ohio, Florida & Texas, It was nice that we all had returned to the Dayton area by '94, I think it was. (My brother, Gary was the only one who never left.) All but Dad. He died from lung cancer in July of '93 in Houston. He had really grown to love Texas & would never have moved back here! I got to spend the last week with him, but it sure wasn't the same as being able to help during the illness like you can when you're local... I was SO VERY glad that I was back home in Ohio while my Gramma & Grampa were still in their home! They ended-up in the same room in a nursing home by the end of '85. I always tried to help them in those later years. They were the best people I've ever known & you wish you could do more though. Gramma died 6 months to the day before their 75th anniversary. h to have that much time together & they certainly deserved it! I wish everyone had the relationship that I had with my grandparents. One of the best parts of my life! I married a FANTASTIC woman, Paula Jones in '88. We have one daughter, Caitlyn, a senior at Beavercreek High School, class of 2010. College is looking like Kent State University, or Ohio State University. It's gonna be weird having the empty nest thing in the Fall...! Also our wienerhound, Snickers is going to be lost without his daily dose of Cait! My first house was near Smithville & Linden Ave. in Dayton - a great neighborhood. I lived there for around five years, then moved into the Knollwood area in Beavercreek. We've been here since late '88. Paula has been driving school buses here since '93, after 15 years in Kroger's bakery. We like to take nature walks on weekends when we get the chance. Maybe we'll get to do more camping soon, since Caitlyn never really grew to love that as much as we did! Our first big trip was 3 weeks at the holidays in '87-'88. 8750 miles Winter camping in a Suzuki Samurai! We left on Christmas morning & went clear out to the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Yosemite, Big Bend, etc., then visited my parents & friends in Houston before heading back to Ohio. We figured if we could manage all that without killing each other, then we oughta get married!!! Another great one was in July of '95 - a three week trip around Lake Superior in an old Hi-Lo camper. I'd love to do that trip again! Only having one kid really emphasizes that you need to enjoy where they are in life at the present time. You only get one chance! I'm glad that we did get involved in scouting, though. Paula was the leader & I was co-leader of Girl Scout Troop #595. That was a lot of work but gave us the chance to be a part of 10-12 other girls' lives for several years & I hope they always have good memories of those days like we do! Well, that's the quick story for me as of 1-17-10. Best wishes to all out there!!! Scott
