Scott's Story

Life After high-school, I stuck around in Twin Falls for about a year. During that time, I dropped my adopted last name, Perkins, which was my stepfather's last name, and returned to that of my father- Merrifield. In 1988, I decided to join the Army (that G.I.Bill just sounded too good). I was married while in the army, and had a daughter, Amanda. I divorced in 1992. I just recently remarried, and my wife and I live in the denver suburbs with my daughter, who is now 15. School I have many good memories from High School. Some of my favorites are touring with the Madrigals, running for Student Body president (amazing how funny of a speech Adam Forbes can help you write when you've both had a few Big Gulps...anyone remember the "Dare to be Ordinary" campaign?), going to All State and All Northwest Chior and Boys State, racing Danny Gillman down Falls in my Renault Le Car on the way to the county fair, hanging out at Joe Seaich's with Adam, Sean, Anthony, Dave, Mike, Lance College I attended Metropolitan State College in Denver through 1997, working on my degree in History, with a minor in creative writing. It was during that time that I wrote my first play, "Desert Air", a story about a group of soldiers running a pirate radio station in Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War (fairly autobiographical). It was produced in Denver at the Changing Scene Theatre, and then later produced in Chicago. I moved to Chicago with big dreams of becoming the next Neil Simon, and during the next 2 years wrote two more plays, "When It Snows in July", and "Driving In from Yesterday". All of them met with average critical success, and almost...Expand for more
no financial success to speak of. Workplace In 2000, I returned to Denver, continuing my writing, but looking for a real job. I'm still looking for a real job, but in the meantime, I'm the entertainment coordinator for a corporation that runs a number of nightclubs in in Denver and nationally. Ok, actually thats a fancy way of saying I'm the head DJ at one of the clubs, and I design the lighting and computer systems at the others. Though it pays for the bills and the toys, it really isn't where my interest is, and so last year I retuned to school, studying for my degree in Information Technology. *Update Sep.2006- Well, decided doing IT stuff was fun when I was doing it for myself, but stunk when I was doing it for someone else. So...time to shift gears and go back to where I started education-wise. I'm going to go ahead and pursue a degree in what I really, truly enjoy...History Education. Yeah I know...37 years old and still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Military In 1988, after training in South Carolina and Alabama as a chemical weapons specialist, I was assigned to a unit is Stuttgart, Germany. It was there that I met my first wife, and it was there that my daughter, Amanda, was born, in 1989. A year later, my unit was sent to Saudi Arabia as part of the build up for Desert Storm. I managed to get the full Middle East tour, Army style. I served there until June of 1991. Unfortunately, my marriage didn't last through the war, the whole long-distance relationship thing turning out to be too much of a strain. I left the army in late 1991, and stayed in the reserves for 3 more years.
