Mr. Waite joined Patelco Credit Union in 1994 and is responsible for corporate finance and accounting, ALM and corporate investments, and the investment brokerage and insurance Subsidiary Corporation. He has also piloted the e-commerce, plastic card services, and information technology areas. He is the innovator who delivered retail check imaging to the credit union industry and created the nationâs first integrated online auto insurance and loan platform with Esurance. As their Chief Financial Officer, he also recommends financial strategies for various business opportunities as well as strategic, operational and technological changes at the $4 billion dollar credit union in Pleasanton, Ca. As the CEO of Patelcorp, he is responsible for providing investment and insurance products to its 270,000 members. In 2012 he launched a nationwide mutual fund investment program for the credit union industry called InvestDaily. He presently serves on the Boards of three companies. Prior to joining Patelco he was Chief Financial Officer for FAA Western Federal Credit Union in Los Angeles. Before that he was Vice President - Planning and Control Officer for First Interstate Bank where he served in a variety of positions for over 10 years.
In 2003 he became the first representative from his industry to ever be appointed to the highly prestigious Advisory Council of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). He quickly became recognized as the most prominent spokesman for small private companies in the FASBâs standard setting process. At the urging of Congress in 2004, the FASB established a Small Business Advisory Committee to increase the small business communityâs involvement in the development of U.S. accounting standards. Mr. Waite is serving in his 11th year as Chairman of the Credit Union National Associationâs Accounting Subcommittee. The subcommittee advises the credit union industry on accounting and regulatory changes affecting it. He frequently advises CUNAâs Washington office and the National Credit Union Administration on financial reporting and regulatory matters. He has been consulted by many during the Corporate Credit Union crisis over the past 4 years. In 2011 he served as the Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Western Bridge Corporate Members Advisory Council. He presently serves on the Executive Councils of Catalyst Corporate Credit Union and CUSO Financial Services, LLP.
In 2005, he completed his fourth and final year as Chairman of the National CUNA CFO Council and its Executive Committee, serving longer than any previous Chairman. Many credit Mr. Waiteâs leadership as a driving force behind the CUNA CFO Councilâs success. In 2006, he completed his two-year term as the elected Chairman of the CUNA Council Forum, the governing body of all six CUNA Councils representing over 5,000 credit union professionals nationwide. He also maintained a seat on CUNAâs Government Affairs Committee.
He has been a featured in numerous industry conferences, interviews, articles, and publications. In 2007, he was honored as a Finalist for the highly prestigious San Francisco Bay Area CFO of the Year Award sponsored by the San Francisco Business Times. He was inducted as an inaugural member of âWhoâs Who in Americaâs Credit Unionsâ in 2008. In 2010, he was honored in Washington D.C. at the industryâs Trailblazer Awards as âCFO of the Yearâ. In 2013, he was again honored as the first repeat recipient of the Trailblazer Awards as âCFO of the Yearâ.
Mr. Waite is a graduate of the Executive Program at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, a proud lifetime member of the Stanford University GSB Alumnus, and attended California State University at Los Angeles.
