Scott's Story

Life I've lived all over the place (London, New Orleans, Idyllwild, etc), but I landed in a little mountain community about an hour from work. (Sound familiar?) Work is a Center for the Performing Arts that I (try to) keep in the black. Home is three acres of redwoods, with two creeks converging under the deck. Add two giggly kids on roller-skates and my loving, caring, too-hard-working wife, with a twist of barbecue smoke and maybe a nice bottle of Pinot Noir from the winery up the road and you get a pretty good picture. I run marathons. (So there, David Curry!) I've finished eight of the crazy things in the last four years, and I even have an age-group medal. It's not that I'm fast, cause I'm not; I'm just too stupid to know when to quit. As I write this, I'm getting ready for another hard training run, working towards an eventual Boston Marathon Qualifier (please, let it be this one!) Other things I like to do: Wave my arms in front of the church choir, and hear what noise comes out. I occasionally play on my small collection of guitars, but not enough that anyone would wa...Expand for more
nt to listen. My piano playing and singing are similarly dysfunctional. My daughter has taken up the trumpet, so I'm getting a bit of a workout there, but it's still dangerous to passing bats and migratory birds. Every couple of years, I'll dust off my voice and get cast in a musical at one of the local colleges, or find some similar artistic indiscretion. Last spring I did a couple days' acting for a student film at Santa Cruz, as the mad scientist who's poor planning dooms the well-meaning residents of a small space station to a comically tragic death. I had lots of fun, and the kids enjoyed the novelty of having an old man on the set. My name is even on the cover of the (very limited release) DVD! So that's life as of early 2007. As my children approach their teen years, I think about that foreign land called the 70's from whence we came, and I wonder what the world will be like another three decades down the road? But now I become philosophical; someone please make a rude joke, and pour me another glass of wine! I wish you all the best that life can give you! -WSW, 3/19/07
