Scott's Story

As some of you may know after I retired from the Navy in 1986 we moved to some property we owned on Elfendahl Pass Road in Belfair, Had a real nice home built there and we were set for life (we thought) I was working for the Base Operating Service Contractor at Bangor and we did some traveling on our vacations. Retired from that job in 2000 and we hit the road in our Motorhome and went cross country to visit relatives and then headed back west searching for a winter resort to spend our winters at. Wickenburg AZ. was high on our list but quickly written off. Twentynine Palms, CA was next because we had visited there before. But while there we took a trip in the car to visit my wife, Isabelles, relatives in a park in CA called the Fountain of Youth. which Is located just north of Niland and on the east side of the Salton Sea and about 40 miles south of Indio. That was it. Went back to Twentynine Palms and packed up the motor home and went there to spend some time and continued that Journey for years. Shortly after my oldest son retired from the Navy he took a Job in Buckeye,AZ and of course when we were in Southern Ca. for the winter we visited back in forth. Because we had not been spending any winters in Belfair and because or our desire to be closer to My Son and his family we put the place in Belfair on the Market. Nothing happened for a year and a half and off the market it went. In the spring of 2010 after we got home we were procrastinating on weather we should list the place again when we got a call from a Real Estate guy who wanted to know if we were going to list it again. So we said go ahead and list it and within two weeks we had an offer we couldn't refuse which basically said Cash, be out in less than 30 days. Sold. We had planned to do a self move which with the help of friends and relatives went well. We had arranged for a storage place in Buckeye so all our stuff went there and then we started the task of finding a place to live. That only took a few days and by mid June we were moved in. House is a Santa Fe style sitting on an acre and no home owners association.. Our Daughter in Law was with us while we were looking at this place and spotted a house across the street and u...Expand for more
p one lot and she said they had to have that house even tho they were in a brand new house they bought in 2006. But that house was built when their three girls were living at home and they were now down to one at home and that wasent going to be for long., Any way they made it happen and in March of 2011 they became our across the street neighbor. We still go to the Fountain of Youth ( FOYSPA.com ) in the winter time but do enjoy the desert living. Course when we moved in there was no landscaping so that was a bit of a chore to be done over the years and seems like it is an ongoing project. Shortly after we got here we transferred our membership from the North Mason United Methodist Church to the Local Methodist Church here in Buckeye. After we had been there about a year or so I was asked if I would like to participate in the Easter time production the church does of the Living Last Supper. I initially said no cause I have always had trouble memorizing stuff. But they said they wanted me for a reading part. Ok so I have been doing that for the last 4 years and enjoy it. It is a very Moving experience but is always well received in the community. I got a call one day from a complete stranger to me shortly after we moved here and even before we started looking for a house. Anyway he introduced himself as a friend of My Son and his wife and had heard from my son that I liked to play golf. We have a tee time tomorrow. Great I said. Well I have been playing golf with him every week ever since when we are here. Turns out he is an Italian emigrant who came to the US around 1953. Anyway he and his wife are now good fiends. Our move to AZ was never in our original plans when I quit working. but we are glad we did and we still make a month or so long visit in the summer time. We still have a Daughter in Belfair and a Granddaughter and her husband and two great grand sons in Auburn. When we get there we will be looking forward to some golf and who knows may see some of you around there. Our place in AZ is big enough to park a visiting RV and we do enjoy company. I am going to play golf in my Sisters class reunion golf thing on the 24th of July at the Kitsap County CC, (Erlands Point)
