Scott's Story

Hello everyone! Hope you are all doing well. My family and I moved to Huntsville Alabama in April of 2004. I have a carpet cleaning company and in Indiana there are just too many slow months to raise a family of 6 children. We love it here although I wish I could have brought my family and maybe 20 of my closest friends. Then it would have been perfect. I have 4 daughters and 2 sons. My first two daughters are in college studying to be an English teacher and a nurse. I have a daughter who is going to be a junior and my oldest son is going to be a sophomore. Ben is a very good wrestler. He got 4th in the state last year as a freshman in the 112 lb. weight class. (update) he also got 4th his sophomore year. In Alabama if your junior high doesn't field a team in a particular sport you can participate on the high school team. So Ben has actually wrestled for 3 years on the varsity team and has 206 wins so far. He also has 127 pins. He is on his way to possibly setting some national records if he stays healthy and wise. He has also lettered in cross-country and track all 3 years. He just finished his freshman year and already has 9 varsity letters. He's having a great time in school. He doesn't have a clue what he is accomplishing. He's getting great grades and is going to be able to choose exactly where and what he wants to do in his future. I also have a son in the 7th grade and my baby daughter will be in the 5th grade this next year. We are truly blessed. My family has had a puppet ministry since 1987. Even before my first daughter was conceived my wife and I were going around to churches, schools, nursing homes and day care centers putting on entertaining shows with an important message. We have a website at servingyou247.com if you would like to learn more of what we do. We also have a t-shirt shop where we have hundreds of different designs that you can choose what type of shirt you want to put your chosen design on. Total customization. Exactly how you want it. Check out our site. God has been so good to us over the years. No major problems. My wife's mom died a couple of years ago at age 77. My mom's mother died in 2001 in her mid 80's. Her father had a stroke just before thanksgiving in 2008 and he is not doing well. But he had a wonderful healthy life and is now 88 years old. We have been so very fortunate with as many kids as we have. Thank You Lord. What we enjoy doing now is seeing different parts of the United States. Sadly we don't get real far from home now because of the economics, but we still go somewhere. We like to hike and canoe and take in God's beauty. We live in a great spot now because we are close to the mountains. Six hours from the gulf. Four hours from Atlanta, two hours from Birmingham, two hours from Nashville, one hour and fourty-five minutes from Chattanoga and four and half hours away from Gatlinburg. PERFECT LOCATION. Takes us about 8 ...Expand for more
and a half hours to get back to our first home. I miss Indiana very much. But we do love it here also. Come visit us. You will fall in love with the area also. See You Soon. Boy how things change. I wrote the above 4 years ago. A lot has happened in our lives. My son the wrestler went on to win two state championships his junior and senior years. He just now finished up his sophomore year at Shorter University in Rome GA. He is on a wrestiling scholorship and has done quite well his first two years. He was 43-3 and placed 7th in the nation last year and went 20-1 this year losing his first match of the year in the championship match of the NCWA tournament. What has changed is when Ben was a senior on Jan. 14, 2012 his sister who was in her last semester of nursing school was involved in a car accident, that left her paralyzed from the chest down. She has decent use of her arms and fingers. Way more than she should for having a c4 c5 break. Complete. I now speak a different language than I ever have in my life. Of course this happened 4 months and one day after I turned 50 years old. My 50's haven't been to good so far. Christine is my daughters name and she is doing quite well under the circumstances. She finished up her degree the next year. And has since passed the boards to become a full fledged R.N. She just had an operation a couple of weeks ago (April 23rd 2014) that brought a tube up toward her belly button so that she can begin to self cathetar herself. She will look for a job in June and hopefully she will find something that she will enjoy. She has a van now that she can drive herself. She loves that. Her boyfriend was driving her car the night of the accident. She was in the passenger seat. She is an awesome girl. Never a problem. Of course I thought that someday she would be watching over us, so this is hard to take. Watching your flesh and blood be in physical pain and not be able to get up and go some place when she wants to. But like I said she is not a complainer. But please lift my family up in prayer. It is a tough thing to deal with. Thanks for listening. Oh, by the way, when Ben won his semi-final match to get to the championship match his senior year it did set the national record for career wins. It was such an emotional day. It was about 5 weeks after the accident. Christine and mom were in a hospital in Birmingham that was helping Christine with her tracheotomy. We were skyping the matches so they could watch as good as possible. The night before the accident Ben lost to a 4 time state champion by two points. That was the last match he lost. The accident happened at 5 in the morning on Saturday and Ben wrestled 5 matches that day. Of course won them all and then headed to the hospital a couple of miles away where Christine had already had her surgery to put her spine back together. Thanks for listening and I will update again at a later date. God Bless You.
