Scott's Story

Life I moved from Parkview to Beloit after 10th grade but hated Beloit High School. I graduated early because I could and don't remember very many people from there. I started dating my wife right after graduating, she was a year ahead of me at Beloit High. I worked partime jobs for a couple years then went to Blackhawk Tech for a year (welding). I started working in a factory in Beloit. In 1983, I got married just after my wife graduated from UW-Whitewater and just before she started working at Oscar Mayer in Madison. About three years later my wife started going for her MBA at UW-Madison, and I started going for my Bachelors degree there full time. While in college we bought our first home and had two children, a boy and a girl. We both graduated and I started working for the WI Dept of Transportation as a Civil Engineer. She left Oscar Mayer (now Kraft Foods) to work for a smaller company. We bought a bigger house just outside of Madison and I started for my Master's degree in Civil Engineering part-time at the UW in 1994 and graduated in 1998. In 1999, in addition to working full time with the DOT, I became a part-time Motorcycle Safety Instructor for the DOT because I thought it would be fun. Motorcycling is a big passion for me and I have taken many cross country motorcycling trips and plan many more. In 2003, after 20+ years in the Madison area, my wife went back to Kraft but in northern Illinois. I gave up my fulltime job ...Expand for more
and am now Mr. Mom. I still teach motorcycling safety part-time in the Kenosha area and in Madison. It's so fun that it doesn't really seem like a job, except maybe when it's hot outside. The kids are as happy as teenagers can be and we like to camp and travel. I would like to see many people from Parkview, especially the gang of two dozen or so that were from Newark Grade school plus many others from high school. I keep up on most of the Parkview class of 1980 from Linda Van Brocklin Simplot, who is married to one of my cousins, Ron. I know that I should really go look up some of the people that were my close friends, I just never seem to take the time. Soon my kids will be more independent so I'll probably come looking for some old friends. Fall 2005 - I finally went and looked someone up - Cliff Elmer, one of my best childhood friends. School Blackhawk Technical College, 1982 (Welding) BS/MS Civil Engineering, UW-Madison, 1992/98. College A lot of work, although it got easier as it went. See school profile for details. Workplace Partimejobs/Factorylabor/CivilEngineer. Motorcycling Instructor parttime now. Partime jobs at first, factory laborer for several years, after college worked as a Civil Engineer for 10 years for the WI Dept. of Transportation. Now I teach Motorcycling Safety part-time at Madison Area Technical College in Madison, and at Gateway Technical College and Uke's Harley Davidson in Kenosha.
