Sean's Story

I grew up part of the time in Visalia. I never really fit into the whole Central Valley farming thing. I was from Long beach and transplanted there by a irresponsible mother with issues. Most of the time I was that guy you made fun of. I tried change the label, but hey I wasn't "normal". Things have definitely changed. I'm not the same person I was. I guess I came back into my own when I returned to Long Beach. I found out that I was just another student not that one student. I see alot of you have prospered in your lives. Congrats. I've done ok for myself. I went in the Navy and became a meteorologist for them. I got to do a little traveling with them, so that was cool. I lived in Japan for 2 1/2 years and met some the nicest people you could ever meet. I like to say that I've skateboarded in 7 different countries. Like I said, you meet the nicest people when you show them respect. I discharged out of the Navy and went into Union Ironworking. The side of the trade that I do is the exterior construction of skyscrapers. Basically the skin. Glass, metal, stone, etc... I'm in Los angeles Local 433. I've been working out of town for about 3 yrs. I worked at the City Center Project in Vegas. Our company did the curtainwall(windows) on the Vdara. Can't miss it. After that I was in Chicago working on 340 on the Park and One Museum Park. It was a fun time for all. Vegas is a little loud for me. Chicago was crazy and smooth at the same time. e next project we have is One World Trade Center(Freedom Tower). I can't wait. Anyways, I hope you all are well. If you do remember me, forget about the messed up kid. That was 100 years ago. Send me a hello and see where it goes. One last thing. Sometimes when you meet kids that have certain "issues" they might just be hiding something. I am a survivor severe child abuse. What happened at 1529 S. Thomas St. was unspeakable. I was being abused by a woman since I about 8 yrs. old. By the time I made it to Jr. and Senior High, I was so embarrassed and afraid that I became "one of those students". I ran when I was 16. I found my mom back in Long Beach and tried to live again. I turned out on the non-abusive side of life. I have 3 outrageous kids ages 16, 12 and 10. I've been married for 18 years to an incredible woman. In the Navy our ship spent alot of time in the Phillipines. While there, I was fortunate enough to help the base chaplain with the counseling of some of the kids off base that were abused. Some were put on the streets by their own families as young as 11 years old to make money by stealing or prostitution. These encounters would humble the strongest person. It helped me get over what happened to me and to learn to put my experiences to work in my own family. What I'm getting at is this, sometimes the kids aren't just weird. Sometimes they just really need someone they can trust. That's my story guys. Be cool, be happy, live long!
