Sean's Story
Life
In 1982 I graduated from Blanchet and then climbed Mt. Rainier during the summer with the Benoit twins and my own twin brother, Mark, and several others from the Seattle area. It was like walking on the moon. I did not think I could do it until I did. Then, I believed in being able to accomplish anything in my life.
In 1983 I enrolled in the EMT-A (Ambulance Medic) program at North Seattle Community College and graduated. The following Spring-Summer I worked for Mercy Ambulance in White Center in Seattle.
I went to Western Washington University in Bellingham from 1984-88 and graduated with a degree in German language. I also earned a locksmithing certification.
I went to work for Seafirst and Key Banks from 1990 to 1999 and then switched to being self-employed as a home remodeling contractor. That went well until 2001 and our economy tanked. I then went into substitute teaching and loved it. So, I began my journey back to school and earned a teaching certificate K-8 and a Master's in Elementary Education from Eastern Washington University through the Kent School District program. I still sub full-time and am seeking a permanent elementary teaching position.
Yes, I still attend mass on Sundays and am a single father to Monica, age 12. She is a sixth grader and I am a weekend dad.
I also have authored a book and a DVD, available on Amazon.com and at every library...Expand for more
on the West Coast: "Finding Gold in Washington State:2005-6 Edition" and "Finding Gold with Sluicebox Sean."
My twin brother, Mark, is married and lives in Orting, WA. He and his wife have four children and he coaches wrestling when not working for Boeing as a flight test electrical engineer. He also owns his own business called "Mustang Hospital." He restores vintage '60s Mustangs.
Blanchet was a wonderful experience for me both educationally and spiritually. I was challenged to become a life-long learner and to live in the world, not of it.
Regrets? I wish I had become a pilot, too. Who knows, maybe that will come along someday.
I also hope to remarry. My divorce was in 1997 and the gal I married from Japan was our family's foreign exchange student. I guess I helped her realize her citizenship. My daughter was the greatest gift from it, though. No regrets there.
I was diagnosed in 1994 with insulin diabetes (American Indian in my background pre-disposed me to this genetically) and my twin came down with it in 1983.
I hope to hear from Blanchet alumni. I hope God is still the focus of your working and family lives.
Sincerely,
Sean T. Taeschner, M.Ed.
