Life
Greetings from New York City, of all places! CCNY in fact.
I did my undergraduate at Cornell in math and physics and then earned a doctorate at UCLA in mathematics. California was great and after more than 10 years there as a student, a postdoc, and professor, I think of myself as a Californian, enjoying the climbing, biking, kayaking and mountaineering there. our academic positions weren't in the same place, we lived apart until coming to New York City in 1999. We weren't sure if we'd like NYC but we knew we'd like living in the same city and it has worked out well- we do in fact like New York!
Now we are both professors in the City University of New York system and its great- our students are drawn from a huge range of backgrounds and we both have been productive with a wide range of research.
