Sean's Story
Life
After graduating from Killeen in 1988, I went right to Prairie View A & M University. Unfortunately, I left school in 1991 a year shy of an Engineering Degree. Only after I dropped out, I decided to join the Military following my fatherÂs footsteps. I served four years on Active Duty, surviving two wars and facing negative political points of views, and served the remaining 8-year commitment on Inactive Ready Reserve.
In July of 1996, I was hired on with Nortel Networks and furthered my career in the communications field. I traveled extensively upholding the company name through building great rapport with clients and constituents alike, managing projects, finishing them ahead of time and under budget although I wasnÂt happy because of my desire to settle down and go back to school. After 3 years of impeccable service and the constant drive to get myself off the road, I was finally was promoted to a position in Atlanta in July of 1999.
November 1st of that year I started school attending DeVry University. I figured it was time to make up for 12 years of living life with nothing tangible to show for it, other than mental lessons learned and wisdom gained. I started over pursuing a BS Degree in Telecommunications Management. I graduated with Honors 2 years and 7 months later in June of 2002. Two days after graduation, I began at Keller Graduate School pursuing an MBA with a Human Resource concentration. During the interim of this ac...Expand for more
hievement, I became a homeowner. Things were finally coming together, but I was very weary due to problems at work as well as personal that werenÂt quite resolved. I drove on even when I had thoughts of giving up. Unfortunately, my GPA had dropped because disparate treatment at work and some of the heavily weighted group projects that didnÂt score too high in a few classes. I graduated in February of 2004, but without Honors of course.
I finished both degrees in 4 years and 3 months, quite a feat considering all the things I have endured. I have been witness to so many unethical acts of abuse of authority and leadership throughout this entire time period of my life, but I didnÂt allow it to deter me from my goals and aspirations of bettering myself and putting myself in a position to make positive and ethical changes. I realize that I am neither a famous person nor an athlete so education and upstanding character would propel me into the proper sight of society; therefore giving me the edge needed, listening ear, and undivided attention to be taken seriously.
I am currently pursuing a PhD in Organization and Management specializing in Leadership at Capella University. I have so much wisdom to share with others; the community, and society and a Doctorate Degree will open those remaining doors that are presently closed even with a MBA. It will be a long hard road, but well worth it. After all, Dr. Foxx does have a nice ring to it.
