Seleena's Story

Life I have been married for almost 22 years. I have two children, Justice who is 10, and Shannen who is 12. I work as the secretary/bookkeeper for Morningside Elementary School where I have been for 7 years. The children keep us on the go with their many activities which include modeling and acting. They have both won contests and starred in a couple of commercials. My son was the lead character in a short independent film that is being released later this year to film festivals. I am working on starting my own business as a photographer and hope to eventually have my own studio. Although we travel alot because of the children, we actually prefer being at home watching movies, playing cards, etc. We are very involved with our church and we sing in the choir. My husband has a small side business as a DJ so we are both into music of all types. We currently live in Stewartsville and while we love our home our goal is to move to Northern Montana within the next few years. We like open spaces and cold weather. College I attended Free Will Baptist Bible College. It was an experience I will not forget. One of my best friend's from church attended the same college with me and we shared many a story and struggle. To help pay my way I had to clean houses, work in the cafeteria, and iron for other people. Because of the type of college we had curfews and never pulled all-nighters. We didn't have to work to gain entry to a sorority, they "begged" us to join. We had our pick of any and they all treated you like something special in an effort to win you over to their "team". I think my most interesting (and scary) experience was the night some friends and I were in the dorm room. ...Expand for more
It was a friday night and we were just hanging out together talking. We had lit some candles. My best friend had really long hair and when she went to toss it around her head it caught in the flame of an candle and actually caught on fire. Luckily it didn't burn much before we got it out. However, she did have to do some damage control on her hair style. I really enjoyed those days and sometimes wish I could go back. Other times, I'm glad it's over. Workplace I had my first job during my senior year in high school. I worked in a Day Care Center with a group of 4-5 year olds. I worked through the summer until I started college in the fall. During college, I worked in the school cafeteria, cleaned houses, and ironed to make money. When I left college I went to work at a bank and served in may positions mostly in the loan department. We moved to Baltimore Md for a short period and I once again worked in a bank in the loan department. When we returned to Roanoke, I took a job working in a finance company. I have worked for Allstate Insurance. I worked as a Secretary/Bookkeeper/Office Manager for a Psycotherpist...that was an interesting position. I worked as Office Manager/Customer Service Manager/Sales Coordinator Manager for a long distance company and I currently work as the Secretary/Bookkeeper for Morningside Elementary School. I have been at the school for 7 years and I must say it is my favorite job to date. I'm doing the work I do best but still play a part in student's lives and education. I am currently attending school to become a photographer. I am doing jobs now (kind of working two jobs) to build my business. I hope to eventually do photography full time.
