Senta's Story

Life Well, life has it's ups & Downs. Frank Gallegos and I got Married in June 1990. We bought a house, and had our first son Frankie in 1993 and our second son, Bo in '97. After working at Whitesands for 9 years, Frank got sick of it and got his Contractors lisence in '99. Everything was going so good and we were really happy. In September of 2000, at age 7, My son Frankie was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer in his left leg. He underwent amputation of his leg and a year of high dose Chemotherapy. We stayed strong and positive through this trying time. Everything seemed to get back to a new normal. (Life is never the same after something like that) But It is good, and we have a new appreciation for the little things in life. Then, in May of this year ('05), Nearly 5 years from his first diagnosis, on one of Frankies follow-up scans, we found that his cancer had returned. This time it had spread to his left lung. He had surgery to remove the lower lobe and has just finished a 24 week trial for an inhaled treatment. He is doing really well, and he is very strong. I am just getting really nervous about his follow-up scans next week. Other than that, Life is good. We try to enjoy life as much as possible, knowing that each day is a gift. We got the results of the scans, and they were not good. His Cancer has returned with multiple tumors in his left lung, by his heart, 2 by his ribs, an...Expand for more
d next to his spine. He started Chemotherapy again last week. If the Chemo works, he will go to MD Anderson in Houston for surgery. I am updating from the hospital computer. Well, the chemo worked and he did have the surgery in Houston in March, '06. The surgeon was able to remove them all, over 23 tumors. His last scans showed no new tumors and we are so thankful and happy for that. He will be getting scans every other month now. Also, When Frankie got the bad news last October, he asked me to have another baby, so that if he didn't make it through this, his brother would not be an only child and he wanted Frank and I to go on living a happy life- Out of the mouths of babes! What could I say??? I just gave birth to a baby girl on 9-2-06. She is beautiful. Her name is Aiyana Rose, Aiyana means eternal blossom in Native American. Life is good again for now and I just hope and pray it stays like that for a very long time. Update- Frankie relapsed again in July of 2008 with a Tumor near his spine and left kidney in the chest wall. He did Chemotherapy again, we went to Houston again and had the tumor removed. He had to have 2 ribs removed and a gortex patch put in to protect his organs. He just finished his chemo and a trial drug that he has been on for 9 months. He finished Aril 30th 2009. He just had scans yesterday and I am waiting on the results....Stable - No sign of recurrance - Yay!
