Sergio's Story
Life
This cracks me up. It's May 24, 2005 and I just decided to hop on and check this site out after several years on hiatus. My old bio made absolutely no sense so I decided to update. Hopefully, somebody out there will care.
First off, here's a few stats you might like to know about me:
Birthday: November 11th, 1975
Married?: Single, Happy and Free-spirited
Residence: Huntington Beach, Ca
Religion: I believe in a higher power but my main practice is
peace, love, patience, respect and understanding.
Politics: I am much more liberal than I am
conservative.
Special Interests: Backpacking, art, music, animals, creative
people. Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Dungeons and Dragons
video games, nerd conventions... I'm a total dork but
hide it pretty well when I need to.
Yeah, so it's been a little over a decade now since graduation and as I'm approaching my 30th birthday in November I must say I'm pretty happy with who I am and where I'm headed.
After Marina I went to Goldenwest College where I spent the better part of 3+ years struggling with school and toiling over my increasing passion for music. Acedemically I was a failure and it really hurt my self-esteem not being able to achieve in something so relatively simple. I was stifling my burning desire to express myself creatively because I didn't feel that my music and art could find a place as a legitimate scholarly pursuit. Like many people, I couldn't come to terms with what I wanted or needed out of school so it became trivial to me and I started failing because of my lack of goals. at music was like a poison to my mind--like some sort of compelling addiction. I would always set aside a text book and end up behind an instrument instead.
It was only within recent years that I finally came to terms and take pride in the fact that I am a musician. In certain ways, life has become a lot simpler to me now that I have a better idea of who I am. Being an artist of any kind is difficult because it often involves having to survive by living off the "beaten path"--sacrificing leading a relatively normal life along with all its rewards in order to persue your dream. While people my age are getting married, settling down and buying houses, I'm locked away in a studio hunched behind an instrument for hours on end.
Now that I have some life experience I'm looking forward to returning to school with a much more focused approach. I plan to build upon my artistic skills in order to get a job doing something I like (art) to help support what I love (music). I love the synergy between the two fields and believe that having more skills as an artist will be a great asset to my music career.
Musically, I play bass guitar in two different groups while still writing and working on my own material--something I labor at all the time. I also keep busy by scoring indie films and generally whatever else happens to come my way. I'm perpetually striving to explore my craft to its fullest potential and I greatly enjoy learning how to play new instruments. I feel most instinctual when I'm behind the piano but I also love to play bass, guitar, mandolin, cello, drums, percussion, harmonica and anything else I can get my hands on.
