Sergio M.'s Story
2009 is a year for celebrations: 30 wonderful years of marriage, 40 years since that memorable Freedom Flight Varadero-Miami and 24 years with the Fire Dept. Two daughters, not married yet.
Forever grateful to the Almighty, these United States of America, my parents, my family, my wife's family and to all friends, teachers and acquaintances who in many ways provided guidance, advice and support throughout my journey on this great land.
So many memories from Ada Merritt Junior High School through Florida International University. From bag boy, to broadcast journalist to public servant, the roller coaster ride has been exhilarating and fruitful.
Now, I'm looking forward to retirement and, God willing, an opportunity to explore new horizons. And as the great Bob Hope tune says: "THANKS FOR THE MEMO...Expand for more

PS: In April and later during August of 2013, the persons responsible for my emigration from Cuba to the United States passed away. I shall always hold them dearly in my heart forevermore. My uncle and his wife gave me the gift of freedom and for that priceless gift I will always remain very grateful. Rest in Peace tio Pepe and tia Maria Antonia. We'll see each other again soon.
In January 2016, the one who gave me life, taught me to read and write and to be aware of that fine line on the sand separating good and evil, passed away. The pain of saying good bye to a mother is immense. I can only begin to imagine an even greater pain when the opposite takes place... a mother loosing a child. Mom may you and Dad bask under the Lord's light forevermore, soon we will be together again. Love always.
