Shannon's Story

Life After graduating, I joined the Navy as an Aviation Electronic's Technician, and was stationed in a P-3 squadron in California. I was there for the big earthquake in 1989, and was deployed to Japan during Desert Storm. My first husband was in the same squadron, and we were married with child when I was 20. I was honorably dishcarged shortly after, and we transferred to Brunswick, ME...I loved it there!! We divorced and I met my (didn't know it at the time!) 2nd husband when he hired me to work for him at WJTO as the office/traffic manager. He and I had a "falling out" after about 2 years, and I ran away to southern IN - 20 minutes or so from Louisville, KY. He followed me with a ring and we got married, 3 years later, this April 30, 2000. During those 3 years, I stumbled into the computer field and was successful as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer - and was starting my own business in the meantime, also. I've recently quit my job (eek!!) and am now working full-time on my small business making natural soap- soon to add more personal care products. My new hubby has also recently gotten quite successful...Expand for more
doing web design and hosting services. Since we no longer have to depend on the economy in Maine, we've decided to move up to Presque Isle, where he's originally from, this summer. And probably spend a lot of time traveling to Bath/Brunswick to see old friends, and hanging out at one of our favorite places - Boothbay Harbor - when time allows! ;) ........................................... UPDATE 3/29/08 - I'm now a third year student at the University of Maine, Presque Isle, working towards a dual bachelor's degree in biology and environmental studies, with minors in chemistry and geology. I recently attended a lab-intensive course at Mt. Desert Island Bio Lab, where we tested DNA of hatchery raised Brook trout to try to find out why, after spawning, they were not re-uptaking calcium, which led to the "screamers" disease. Nothing conclusive, but we'll be presenting our findings at a symposium at the end of April. Not sure if I want to do anything differently after graduation - grad school, most likely, and then working at home again - I just want the papers and the experience I'm getting in the field right now :)
