Shari's Story

Hello, My name is Shari Johnson..used to be Shari Gray in school growing up...quiet, loved to read, shy in high school. Met and married my husband Tom (all withing 5.5 weeks, at that!!) back in 1993; he was on the Navy cruiser Lake Erie, built in Bath, Maine.. Commissioned in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; we lived on Oahu, for the first 20 months we were married! Beautiful weather everyday..beautiful sunsets at night..we lived up in AIea and looked down onto Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona for almost 6 months till we got housing on base. Came back to the States, in 1995, with the only cat on the plane that wasn't tranquilized...that would be Niki! R.I.P., Little Girl! Stationed in Northern VA..at Aegis Training Center..outside of Fredericksburg, Va..for the next 3 years. Got another cat named Bitsy..Lived on base..nice and quiet except when they practiced shooting off ammunition..sorry, some of that new housing' carpeting got ate up by dogs being scared! Got transferred to Jacksonville, Florida in June 1998, Tom was then on the USS Carney..Aegis destroyer...then a few back to back shore duties... We are still here..Tom retired out of the Navy in 2007..was a really nice ceremony..a lot of our friends who had been in the military, dressed in the military outfits..and two nephews, one in Army and one in National Guard, from Oklahoma City, came dressed in their military clothes to honor my husband.. You gotta "Share the Wealth" where you can here and there...maybe not monetary but in things you can help buy buying things or supporting those who cannot do for themselves... I Weirdest job: Either wearing a Winni...Expand for more
e the Pooh costume for Sears in Augusta, Maine way back when! Or working at a Frito Lay plant in Hawaii, a temp job, packing potato chips for one evening, laughing my head off! Sliding all over the place because of the potato grease all over the floor, wearing a hair net with ear plugs, (of course, mine were on top of my head!!...I didn't think the thunderous noise of machinery was too bad!) I had to stand at the end of where the 9 pack of Frito chips were packed into the boxes and make sure the printing was legible...sure thing, the machines had to break down and boxes were flying everywhere! Fun time, though. Share my home with Tom and my 3 cats: , Bitsy, Precious, and Lily and 2 dogs.. Trixie and Shorty. Mrs. Giffin, who was my English teacher taught me many things about myself and others. She taught me '"to look beyond myself and "to always do the best I can be no matter what and to always be true to myself." Thank you Mrs. Giffin, for making me the person I am today. Which can be so hard on a teenager to find her own way. I try to make "Every Day an Adventure!" I like to look at; new yarns; new knitting patterns; make new friends; chocolate; going to the movies; Chinese Food; writing to Soldiers overseas and Supporting our Country; Looking at Wish Upon a Hero.com to help out whenever I can...You might try it sometime..if you could just send a card or just write to someone in need, or help out in another way..it is so rewarding! Family is Everything...as is Friendship to one and all... I love all things Christmas! and Halloween! These are a few of my favorite things... Thanks for reading. Shari
