Sha'an's Story
Life
A couple of years after graduation, I attended a Manpower secretarial training. My internship brought me to Time, Inc. (now TimeWarner) where I worked as a secretary for Time and Fortune magazines. I was laid off when Life magazine stopped publication, however, I found a position (at Time) as a receptionist where I met my husband. My next placement was at Sports Illustrated as a secretary for the writers and then senior editors. My next job at SI was as an editorial assistant and assistance producer for the annual swimsuit editor.
After my husband and I adopted a boy, we left NYC for northern Vermont. In Vermont, I worked as a substance abuse counselor and then a prevention specialist for the state. I received a B.S. from Springfield College of H...Expand for more
uman Services and a M.Ed. from Lesley University. I co-founded a grassroots organization, The African American Alliance of the Northeast Kingdom (VT) and have been a core trainer at Theater of the Oppressed Laboratory (NYC). IÂm the Chair of the Building the Beloved Community Issue Committee for WomenÂs International League for Peace and Freedom. In 2001, I attended the UN World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South African, as a WILPF delegate. Currently, I work freelance as a creative arts educator, trainer and workshop facilitator with a focus on human potential and social/racial justice.
My husband and I divorced in 1985 and I raised our son as a single parent. IÂm now a grandparent. In 1992, I legally changed my name to ShaÂan Mouliert.
