Sharon Borakove:

CLASS OF 1964
Brooklyn, NY

Sharon's Story

Life After H.S. I attended Hunter College and then transferred to the Univ. of Miami, Florida. I graduated with a degree in Elem. Ed and taught children for a few years. I changed careers frequently and held many office jobs in Manhattan, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in the former World Trade Center. In the early 1990's I owned a series of small, home-based businesses: Private Tutoring, The Leisure Connection, and KidTrips. In 1991, I changed careers again, and returned to teaching, but not children. I finally found a subject and an audience I truly enjoy teaching: Adult Education, specifically, ESOL ...Expand for more
(English to Speakers of Other Languages). I've taught ESOL at Brooklyn College, Kingsborough Community College, NYC Technical College, etc. Now I teach part-time at the NYC Dept. of Education, at various locations, and at Brooklyn Public Library. Every semester, I meet hundreds of students from all over the globe, speaking dozens of languages. It's fascinating and very rewarding work. In 1994, I married Bob, a librarian from Wisconsin. We enjoy eating in restaurants, shopping at outdoor farmer's markets, walking tours, photography, and traveling. I look forward to traveling and exploring more of the world when I retire.
