Sharon's Story
Well since high school, I've been married 3 times ! My last husband, Eric West & I used to team drive our tractor trailer all over the USA. We were prefesional tourist !
Between us, I have 2 sons, ages 25 & 22 My husband has a son & a daughter, ages 25 & 23
My son gave me 4 grandsons ! Twins 5, a 2yr & a1yr.
Eric's son had a daughter, 5.
I've been out of our truck for almost 3 yr do to my spinal surgery. We talked every night on the phone & he use to come home prettty often. Then Easter Sunday this year was the las time I heard him say I Love You. The next day he called me & wanted a divorce ! I was devisated !
I found out the following week why. He left me for Sondra Arvin ! She was an exgirlfriend of his. But I still can't figure out why he would throw 10 yr marriage away? I'm so confused & so hurt !
Since school i have been a Jackay of all Trades you might say ! Reason is I had problems with my back and was tring to find a job that didn't irritate it ! So I worked resterants, the BG Army Depot in the Commissary and in the Post Exchange ! Then I went into housekeeping for a while. Yuck ! Good $$, but I hated it ! I read water meters for WMU. I was a grounds keeper/grave digger for Claremont Memorial Gardens out on US 60. I Loved that job !! From there I went to beauty school and become a hairdresser ! It was sorta like being a bartender without the booze !!! I worked this job and waitress at Chances Bar as a waitress to make enough $$ to pay for the 2nd divorce from my pot smoking, wife beating husband ! Everyone in town knows his mother ! Believe me, he's nothing like her and he had me fooled ! I stayed so long because of his son that he had custody of. Anyway it only took my 3 weekends to make the $$ I needed to pay for the divorce ! I guess people really liked me !! Yea, I'v changed alot since school !! I'm not the fat little shy girl anymore !! With all the changes I've been through and the struggles of life, I learned to open my mouth and be noticed ! Well, finally I met my true love ! Job and man ! Driving a tractor trailer was something I was always interested in, but was alwas to shy to try ! But I got my CDL class B when I helped out during the bus strike we had here ! So I studied for the few parts I needed on the written test for my A endorsement and I at the time was cleaning the interior of just the cab of the trucks for $75 per hour ! No kidding ! But when I got thru with them they llooked like they were ready to be sold on a lot !! Yea I'm boasting cause I take pride in any job I ever had !!! installed my septic system for my new home, back on the family farm. I rode with him for 9 months training, which was my choice to train so long, cause me being a girl, I wanted to make sur that when I was cut loose that I could do it on my own and pass my test in Georgetown !! And I did !! 1st try !! Yea me !! My 1st truck was a teal green Kenworth with the most beautiful grey brick painted on it and a waterfall and it's name was Elvis ! The owner named it that, not me ! lol I hooked up to a 48' spreadaxle flatbed and my 1st load by myself was out of Corbin, KY. A load of brick ! People would ask me... Why would a girl like you want to drive a big ole flatbed truck? I'd tell them," Well ya see, I get a workout, a suntan, and a paycheck ! I don't need Jenny Craig, or a tanning bed ! I get paid for all this, plus I get to see all of KY and then some !!! Several years went by and the guy that trained me, became my husband and we now have our own trucking company. We had employees, but i got tired of heering them whine about working to hard. That their ole lady's were drawing welfare and they couldn't make to much money, plus they wouldn't take care of your equipment !! So, I told the dearest, get rid of the trucks and you and I hit the road in 1 truck and team drive! Become Professional Tourist! So we did ! I'm off right now though, do to a major spinal surgery I had Aug 13, 2008. I was cut from my neck to my tailbone and 2 metal rods were placed in there. See I had really bad Scoliosis, which is curvature of the spine. Mine was so severe, theat it was shaped like an S and was also twisted. It caused me major pain all my life ! Hince all the job changes ! I didn't know this until later in life. I had to come out of the truck in Dec of 06, It was so bad that it was endangering my spinal cord and it could be severed and I could be paralyzed. When I woke from my surgery, I could not move my left leg at all, not even my toes ! The surgery took 11 1/2 hrs, I lost 6 pints of blood, and was down to breathing 2 breaths per minute ! I of course didn't know how close to death I was till the 3rd day in ICU. Sll zi knew when I woke is that I was paralyzed !!! I was devastated !! I went from the hospital to Cardinal Hill for a 9 wk stay. They had to teach me how to stand 1st, And then to walk ! It was extremely hard ! But when I left there, I was walking using a walker for assistance ! I'm doing better now. There still are a few complications like numbness and still some pain in the lower part of my spine, but I'm walking !!! I give all thanks to God and Cardinal Hill !!! So for now that's about it ! It's a little more than a nut shell, but hey most of you all did most of your living during school !!!
