Sharon's Story

After graduating from Rosary College (Dominican University) with a teaching degree in technology and home economics I really did get a teaching job. I remember every asking why with the glut of teachers would I do that. What is amazing is to watch the hand of God move in my life. I have been blessed. Miss seeing everyone. Both mother and father had passed. My sister Linda one year younger lost her husband three years ago. I am so blessed to have Steve. Kimberly received her degree in radio and TV and has worked for WGN for over 17 years now. Wow, I can't believe that it has been that long. She and her husband are doing fine. Finally had surgery to have my left knee replaced. For the first time since I was 5 years old my leg is straight. Rehab is extensive as they had to rebuild my left leg. Can't wait until our 50th. Hope all is well with everyone. Write when you have time. Best always, Sharon Evans Pikul The 50th was so wonderful. Life was fantastic. My best friend for 47 years, my husband is now in heaven. Suddenly without warning he had a car accident caused by a massive heart attack on his way home from church December 30th. On the 31st at noon he left Earth for Heaven. We were so happy. He was the center and joy of my life. There is so much to do that I have decided not to teach for a while. His mom will be 103 in August and there are a lot of things that have to be done. Treat every day like it will be your last. Leave nothing unsaid. Put all you affairs in order. Love God with everything you have and cling to Jesu...Expand for more
s. God Bless. Until we meet again. 2020 Update Steve's mother died April 27 while she was in Lemont Nursing Home recovering from a hospital stay. Before they would let her come home, COVID19 positive patients were pushed into her facility. She went from doing fine to sky rocking high levels of sodium that they could not explain and had never seen. Within 48 hours she was gone. Was recruited by the state of Illinois to assist in the statewide eWIC technology implementation. Worked all year training grocery owners how to use new equipment for the Women's, Infant's, and Children's nutrition program. We had over 600 initial contacts with 300+ to train. Must say it was a blast. Got my laugh and smile back. Have not had so much fun in years. 99.999% of the owners are men. We laughed through COVID19 lockdowns; talked one man down from suicide, and gained 10 pounds. We received deliveries of deli sandwiches; had my first humas; and more cookies than we could eat. All in all, like most of us, I can't wait until 2020 is over. Don't know what awaits us in 2021, but I know who does. He still has a plan for our lives. Since you can read what I wrote, I know he has one for you too. So as one Doctor who saved my life back when I was 29 said to me this year, "Kiddo, you're doing really great.." I started to laugh and haven't stopped since. Can't remember the last time someone called me "Kiddo," but let me pass that on to you. Kiddo, God Bless and have a wonderful 2021. Sharon Evans Pikul
