Sharon's Story

After graduation I started a job as a secretary for the Convention Bureau at the Dayton Chamber of Commerce. I left the Chamber in the fall of 1974 to take a job with the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission. In 1974 I met David Donnell a 1971 Northridge High School graduate and we married on August 7, 1976. We had four children - Katie born in 1978, Erin born in 1981, Ashley born in 1984 and Philip born in 1989. After having a family, the 70's, 80's and 90's flew by! David taught high school math at the beginning of our marriage but became a Dayton police officer in 1982. I worked for the Planning Commission until after Erin was born and then decided to be a stay at home Mom for awhile. In 1982 I started working part-time for Green & Green, Lawyers. In 1988 I worked at Freund, Freeze & Arnold and stayed with this law firm until I had Philip in December 1989. During the next few years, which I refer to as the "TNT" years which consisted of teenagers and a toddler, I took care of Philip's numerous health issues as well as my mother's health deteriorating. In 1993 I went back part time and worked for a sole practitioner until the fall of 1995 where I started work at Coolidge Wall one of ...Expand for more
the oldest law firms in the state of Ohio. I have now been with Coolidge for 23 years. In 2006 I became a grandmother, and I now have six grandchildren - McKenzie, age 12, Ethan, age 11, Luke, age 9, Matthew, age 7, Grace, age 4 and Sophia 3 months. I love being a Grandmother! My life changed drastically in 2008 when my husband David died January 20 from pancreatic cancer. He spent all of 2007 fighting this deadly cancer and lived longer than the doctors thought he would. Losing my spouse of 31 years has by far been the hardest thing I have ever experienced, but as we all know life goes on and that is what I have had to do. I think my life is pretty simple, I live in an 90 year old house behind Grandview Hospital. I enjoy working in my house and yard, going to sporting events, shows and concerts. I love watching my son Philip participate in Special Olympic events. He plays basketball for Special Olympics and they have won the state basketball tournament two years. He is 6'5", 240 and the coach calls him their "big man in the middle"! I also enjoy doing things with my grandkids, so all in all I stay pretty busy, but It sure doesn't seem like I graduated from high school over 40 years ago!
