Sharon's Story

One of my most embarrassing moments at Gorgas was when I was in the 8th grade. I was very, very sick. I raised my hand to go to the restroom, but Mr. Johnson totally ignored me. By the time I walked up to him to tell him I felt like I had to throw up, I removed my hand from my mouth, threw up on his desk, and stuff came from both open areas of my body. I ran out of the room as fast as I could. I even remember what I had on...a black and white pleated skirt with a black top. I don't, however, remember who came to check on me, but Mrs. White delivered me home in her car with paper sacks on her car seat! Was I ashamed to return to school the next day - you bet your sweet a** I was! Most embrassing day at Ensley? I wore a red "princess" style dress to school and was coming down from 2nd floor, only I missed the first step from the landing and went tumbling down instead of walking down, just as Philip Puccio and his friends were walking by. I think my face was a brighter shade of red than my dress by the time I pulled myself off the floor! I always wanted to be a singer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right. Unfortunately, I married at an early age because...Expand for more
my mom was afraid I would get preggie and there went the career. Seriously! When I was 7-9 I had a manger and everything, she would book me wherever Cousin Cliff would be doing his talent shows. It was a blast...at least until the horrible night/morning she came home with a bunch of her friends and wanted me to perform for them at 3:00 in the morning and I just couldn't do it. She took me out of all that stuff. It literally broke my heart. That, on top of the abuse I went through...well, it sent me into a horrible state of mind that wouldn't change until I met Jesus Christ on October 15, 1975. I always wanted to be a Child Psychologist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a stupid idea. As it turns out, they were wrong...I came pretty close, however, because one of my tests in Social Psychology was in all upper caps, I literally could not concentrate...weird? Absolutely! The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Gail Kelley, because we were so close and then I did something to upset her and haven't heard from her since. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel everything and add on a separate cottage for my daughter and her children. My dream home would be French Country.
