Sharon's Story

Life I'm not sure there is room here for a life bio but I'll start when my family moved from Hinsdale to Mokena when I was 15. I met my first husband then and married and had my daughter at 16, was divorced at 17. I married my first love that I met in the bleachers at Hinsdale High School when I was 14 and we married when I was 18. We had two boys, Richard in 1962 and Adam in 1965. Richard died at age 26 in 1989. I met my current husband and we've been together now for 30 years. My daughter Julie has 4 children, 28, 24, 21 and 19. Julie died on June 8 2004 at age 44. I also have 5 great grandchildren ages 5, 4, and two born 8 days apart and are now 2 1/2 years old and one more age 9 months. Bob was a college president and vice president for over 35 years and we retired in 2000. We built our dream retirement house and live in Park Forest, IL on a street that runs through a nice golf course. (We don't golf, just like the fact that nobody can build behind us) While I never had a career as such. I worked for a chiropractor for years and did all sorts of jobs in my life, waitress, office manager, that sort of thing. I joined The Compassionate Friends when Richard died and have stayed active to help the newly bereaved with support and lots of hugs. I started the Rich Township Chapter ten years ago and was the Chapter Leader for 5 years then retired. I am still active in my group and am the treasurer. I recently joined t...Expand for more
he Red Hat Society and I love that group, it's all just a lot of fun and boy do I need it. Since Julie died her children call on me for various things and that keeps me running more than I really like to. I have many friends, all gifts in my life. My dear sister Barb who was 4 years younger than me died on April 2, 2004 and I miss her very much. She was my best friend and how I miss talking to her. Mom is gone now 5 years. Bob and I have an adorable 7 pound shih tzu named Puppers who is the love of our life, he's full grown but so small that he looks like a puppy. He owns us really and we'd be lost without him. I like to travel, read, sew, garden, watch TV and have outings with my friends. I guess that's about it. The photo is of me and one of my great granddaughters taken Christmas 2004. The other two are of me with two of Puppers puppies, (he's the daddy dog) the runt and the biggest one, and me with some of the people in my red hat group. I recently found one of my best friends, Barb Bojeski, who used to live on the same street as I did. We had lots of fun as kids and went to Jr. High together. This July, 2007) we're going to finally see each other again when we meet in Wisconsin for a week of fun. She lives in Arizona now with her family. Dan Elia and I also write back and forth via email, he's a lot of fun to say the least. I look forward to seeing more old school friends as time goes on. Sharon
