Sharon A's Story

I like working on my genealogy, something I've been meaning to do for years but thought it was too overwhelming until I bought my first computer. It's a wonderful tool, the computer. It helps me to connect with family and other people I meet on the Internet miles away. I retired from truck driving, started out in construction as a mixer driver and cement hauler, then I went OTR some, hauled hazardous waste in an end-dump, and worked transporting trailers, shuttling and as a class "A" instructor for C. R. England. Then I hauled milk picking it up from the dairies and delivering it to the creameries, sometimes to NV and AZ. I drove for 15 years. I went to truck driving school and got my license when I was 42. I really enjoyed driving but the work was hard and I put in long hours. People were shocked to learn that I was a truck driver. They said I brought some class into the profession. I might have ended up working in a office job but when I told my business ED teacher I as pregnant she refused to teach me the business machines. She told me cause I was pregnant that I was wasting my time and hers by being in the class. I was married for 27 years and have 3 children. I have 8 grandchildren. One is in heaven. I'd like to enjoy my retirement but it doesn't pay enough so I work part-time job baby sitting 2 of my daughter's kids while she goes to college. I'd like spending time with my grandchildren. I get to watch them grow up and contribute to their development. I worked hard all my life. I'm taking it a lot easier n...Expand for more
ow without all the stress and pressure of life's struggles. How do I blow off steam? I don't. I hate fighting. It drains me of my energy. The wildest thing I did in school was to play hooky for a day or maybe it was when I kissed my boyfriend on the premises. The people from my past I'd like most to see again would be my best girl friend, Barbara Barton Brewster who died of cancer before her 24th birthday and my high school sweetheart, "Buster" Gary Vernon Gosnell, who I learned died at the age of 63 in Indiana. I still miss them after all these years. I wish I could have shared the rest of my life with them. I love animals, especially cats. I once had a parrot named Polly. My cats, Silver and Leo were my best pals. Silver lived to be 20 yrs old. Leo, about 18 yrs. Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect. My biggest surprise was; I was adopted at birth by my aunt and uncle who give me back to my maternal mother, against my will, when I was 6 1/2 years old. When I was old enough to marry I chose the wrong person to be with. I made a lot of wrong choices after that too. I learned that most men are terribly cruel and abusive to women. I wanted a big loving family, a 2 story white house with all the luxuries, but my whole life all I got was heartache and disappointment. High school for me, was a great place to get away from the bad home environment and gave me something to do to take my mind off it. I just wish I had been a better student and was popular and fit in with the rest of the crowd.
