Sharon's Story

LIFE: For the most part I think I am still the same person, and not much has changed, but then again, I guess so much really has changed...going to college, changing jobs, career interests, pursuing further education, family growth and changes, etc. I never left SC, I guess I will always call SC home. Even though I stayed here, I lost touch with so many of my classmates and friends. Nowadays, it feels like I am just caught up in the hustle and bustle of work and keeping up with the Jones. PROFESSION: Almost 10 years working with children; Currently working with, teaching, supporting,... children with special needs & disabilities (mainly children with autism, autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing disorders, language disorders, mental retardation, bipolar disorder, etc.) - I have a caseload of about 20 children under the age of 6; I help the families get connected to the right people for diagnosis / evaluations as well as other needed services; I help them cope with the diagnosis, educate the families on the disorder; I work with the child (play/educational therapy); I help the child and family get connected with school programs, therapies, organization...Expand for more
s, etc. EDUCATION: Slowly working on getting my Masters in Psychology thru USC; Graduated 2002 Bachelor of Arts in Child Psychology at USCS; Graduated 2000 Associate of Arts in Psychology at Greenville Tech. FREE TIME: Always shopping! Turbo & CardioKick (new interest); I also have picked up on going swing, salsa, and shag dancing. I still like to write children's books and mystery novels (nothing published). LOVE INTEREST: Single, but there just aren't any more guys like Alan Holcombe and Russ Edwards. Can you blame me? ;) Of coarse I am still looking for my PRINCE CHARMING to marry and have children with, like so many of my classmates. We will see :) FUTURE: I would really love a big pot of money to use towards opening a center with preschool & therapy services for children with special needs, especially autism - I have found that people just don't get it, they just don't understand autism; autism has become a huge epidemic. These kids need a lot of one on one teaching, therapy, and exposure to typical/normal peers. I am setting my sights on changing the world (wouldn't our lovely Scott Pearson be so proud of me). BEST OF WISHES TO YOU ALL!!
