Sharonley (Shari)'s Story

I wasn't a very interesting person in school, and I guess I haven't changed much over the years except that I got older. Lol. I married right out of high school in October. I had 3 kids; 2 boys and a girl. Got divorced in 1984. In December 2000, my oldest boy committed suicide standing in front of an oncoming train. I met the man of my dreams in 1989 and married him in 1990. Funny thing though: his name was Gary, just like my first. His first was named Sharon. He had 2 girls and a boy, I had 2 boys and a girl. We used to joke about it saying life messed up on us. In May 2000 I had a simple surgery done that went wrong, and damaged all the nerve endings in my left hip and outer left leg. It left me partially disabled, which cost me my job of 14 years leading up for the last 6 years to be an Engineering Documentation Specialist in the Engineering Department of a large Aero-Space Manufacturing Company. The house we had in Illinois started falling apart and we couldn't afford so much that had to be fixed, so we sold it and moved to Kansas in 2005, where Gary was born and raised. I liked it out here so much when we visited his family that we decided to retire out here. We bought a home in a nice little town called Ottawa. He got a job working for a huge trash and recycling company. He really liked it even though it was hard work, but he made good money. He would call me twice a day to make sure I was alright, and to let me know he was ok. February 3, 2012, he called me at 10:00 AM, his usual morning calling time. One hour later, I received a call from the Human Resources...Expand for more
Department. There had been an accident; while Gary was returning to his truck after putting back a trash can across the street from his truck, the truck went out of gear and started rolling. Gary didn't notice it, walked in front of it, and the truck knocked him down, rolling over him and killing him instantly. Two years later, and I'm still in much pain from loosing him. I'm getting along, fending for myself. It's hard because of my disability, but I'm doing it. I'd like to get my house paid off in another 7 years, and I'd like to move back to Illinois, close to my daughter-in-law in Rockford. She's already told me she wants to take care of me in my "golden years", as I know my own kids wouldn't do it quite as well. She's always been a sweetheart; sharp as a whip with a college degree. She works as a tax preparer, but the work is year round, and she has a great boss. Her husband is an OTR driver, home on weekends, and they have 2 adorable girls. I have God in my life again; something I grew up with, but somehow lost along the way. I have 8 cats that are closer to me than my own kids, but that's par for the course seeing that my whole life has been a disaster. There's a lot more to my story, but I won't bore you with the details. But without my cats, I think I would have gone crazy after I lost my best friend and soul mate. They are very good company for me, and actually take care of me, especially with their unconditional love. Well, that's my story, and not with a happy ending. But that's life, and I've learned to accept it. Happy Trails, ya' all, and God Bless.
