Shaun's Story
Life Story--there's something a little ominous about that.
I've been in the Colorado Springs area now since 1996. A lot has happend in that time.
I graduated from Oregon State in 1989 with a degree in Biology. Naturally, with a background like that I immediately went into the Navy to fly jets. After flight school in Pensacola, I was stationed in San Diego, Ca flying S-3 Vikings. I survived 2 sets of workups and deployments aboard the USS Nimitz to the Sandbox (aka the Persian Gulf) in '92 and '95. I was able to visit many places (Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, Okinawa, Austria, Germany, Ireland) during my tenure as a squadron officer.
After my tour I came to Colorado to ensure that 1) I wouldn't have to go back to sea and 2) that I learn to ski better. I worked in Cheyenne Mountain (think the movie "...Expand for more
Wargames") as a Space Analyst--again applying that great biology degree from OSU. It was very interesting work. I got to participate with several NASA manned and unmanned space missions among other cool things.
After 10+ years in the Navy, I got out in 1999 and stayed in the Space defense business as a contractor. I have been working as a Systems Engineer and Program Manager for upgrading many of the country's space and missile defense mission systems. During this time I was able to start a family and get my Master's in Space Operations and Systems Management. It's a living.
I was married and recently divorced. I have a son Connor Jacob, born in 2000, a daughter Zoe Noelani, born in 2004. We take advatage of the Colorado outdoors as much as possible with camping, hiking, biking, backpacking, climbiing and of course, skiing.
