Sheila's Story
Life
Well --- I turned 50 this year, as I imagine the majority of us have and I am so grateful to be out of those "cwazy forties". I love middle age - wisdom, freedom, restraint and discretion; qualitites I've needed to hone for a long while.
I own an historic home in Old Towne Orange - sons are in college and enjoying a quieter life - really - for the first time. I am learning WHO I AM!! Still love teaching and I am writing more and more - will finish my second novel soon.
I treasure my life - thank you for all of you who have been a part of the memories that I treasure as well.
School
I have tried on so many occasions to share with my sons as well as my students how vibrant a time it was to be in high school in the early seventies. The overall political climate and events allowed us the opportunity to come into ourselves as our nation was defining itself. The music, art, speeches, rallies, protests, liberations, Roe v. Wade ---- we were there as the youngest group to benefit from the trailblazers before us. This imp...Expand for more
acted my world view greatly.
As far as my most heartfelt memories, being part of the Loara Chamber Singers wins that honor. We sang from 6:45 to 9:00 every morning and most of us would be back in the choir room ditching one or more other classes throughout the day. It was a group of 24 students who learned harmony amidst chaos.
My senior year of high school was consumed by my father's illness. Had it not been for the support I received from this group of steadfast artists, I would not have had any escape from the hell at home.
Sgobba, Cochika, Garth, Suzanne, Sarah, Mindy(God Bless you and Phil)
Bonelli, Cookie, Norris, Andre, and even Jerry Sturmer who kept trying to french kiss me during Oklahoma! - I thakn you all.
College
Besides attending college - truly for life - I am now teaching at the univesity level and I find it most rewarding. I am grateful for the excellent education I received throughout my life.
Military
I'm still opposed to war and both of my sons have CO files.
