Sheila's Story
Life
After graduation I married Ron Gauthier, class of 1962, who was my next door neighbor. We moved to Big Creek, CA where he worked for Southern California Edison. It is one of their major Hydro-electric facilities. Over the next 11 years, we moved to 12 different locations for Edison. I had a beautiful son named Garrett Jerome. We lived in Bishop, CA for a while and saw many movie stars. At that time, Bishop & Mammoth were popular spots to make movies. I also worked for Edison for 23 years. My brother, Larry worked for Edison also. After 13 years Ron and I divorced and I have since remarried a wonderful man named Mike Blower who also worked for Edison. We have been together for 24 years.
I have been involved in community volunteering, church, sports and rescuing animals. I played softball for 20 years, bowled 25 years, and racquetball 6 years. Now that my body won't handle these strenuous sports, I have been an avid golfer for 22 years. I volunteered for 9 years at a drug & alcohol rehabilitation facility for men & women. irectors for awhile until I found out I had breast cancer. That was 6 years ago and 2003 I developed a new cancer in the neck area that is only found in children. I went through one year and came out fine. Six months later now in 2004 it came back and is much more serious and they say there is no cure, but they only can maintain it. Quite an experience needless to say, but I still am alive and kicking. I just went through 25 radiation treatments and 4 weeks off and then 6 months of chemotherapy. I have a great attitude and keep positive as much as possible. We live only for the day now that we see things in a different light.
I lived in Alta Loma, CA (Rancho Cucamonga area in San Bernardino County)for 23 years and have recently moved to Palms Springs area in La Quinta on the Citrus Golf Course next to PGA West. It is so beautiful here and so much to do. We have with us two dogs and two cats.
I have three grandchildren, Anthony 9, Alex 10 months and Sophie 2 months. My son, who is a computer wiz, worked for Edison awhile and now works for Warner Bros.
I miss my hometown Visalia and classmates.
