Sheldon's Story
Life
When I arrived at Howard in the summer of 1986, a taxi dropped me off on the backside of Drew Hall. I didnÂt have a clue then. But, I had just entered a new, fascinating world. For the first time in my life, I was completely surrounded by abundant intelligent Black people. Howard is where I finished Âgrowing up. Since that time, my quest for a professional career has taken me in a variety of directions. IÂve done everything from working at the State Dept. as a civil service clerk and a contract technical writer to working as a security supervisor at a company one of my fellow Bison owns. IÂve done executive protection, guarding the Saudi royal family, worked on a couple of music videos, and worked with the Vietnam WomenÂs Memorial Project as the Executive Direct...Expand for more
or. As many of my classmates remember, I was also in the Army ROTC. IÂm still in the DC National Guard. I started off as a second lieutenant in the Military Police. IÂve lead a platoon, commanded a company, and am now the commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, Headquarters District Area Regional Command, DC National Guard. IÂve also recently been selected as the Public Affairs Officer for the DC National Guard and will soon leave my job as Coordinator of Communications and Public Information in the University of Maryland Physics Dept. to work at the National Guard fulltime.
I have a lovely and wonderful wife, and three great children. I love my country. I love my family. And, I love my fellow Bison that meant so much to me while I was at Howard.
