Shelley's Story
Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by to see how I'm doing. I'm back in Birmingham now, working as a more-or-less permanent freelance writer for Southern Living's custom-publishing group and writing for Lowe's Home Improvement magazine. For the previous 12 years I lived near Des Moines, Iowa, where I had moved to take a job writing for Better Homes and Gardens publications. Among my projects were some Home Depot books and various interior-design magazines. I also wrote a weekly blog for the Remodeling Channel on BHG.com, where I was known as The Dollar-Wise Diva! I'm single now, but I have two wonderful grown daughters. My younger one lives in Atlanta. The older one lives in London, England, with my sweet little grandsons, ages 1 and 4. I have lots of friends and so many interests that I never can do all I would like. I've remodeled umpteen houses but I'm stuck in an apartment--for a while. I've also been exploring art, and some of my copper pieces are in a Des M...Expand for more
oines gallery. I love to go to plays, concerts, and movies, visit local wineries, poke around in flea markets and the dustiest antiques shops I can find, go to the Farmers' Market, take classes, garden, and delve into all kinds of stuff by reading and surfing the net. I'm also a dyed-in-the wool Democrat, a health-conscious cook, and a spiritual seeker. Now that I've hit 62, I've been trying to figure out how to spend the next "half" of my life! I think it's important to show kindness to others, have the courage to speak up about important things, and stay actively involved in my community. I also love to dance and try to squeeze in boogie, ballroom, or Cajun dancing whenever I can. It's so wonderful being back in the South, and I can feel some good changes coming up. I would love to hear from you ... I look back now and those days at Lanier seem like yesterday, and also a lifetime ago. They were truly some of the best, weren't they? I wish I could see you all!
