FRIENDS / CLASSMATES:
GREETINGS! Many of you who knew me or knew of me recall that I was much the loner back then, being painfully shy. I actively shunned people, not because I thought they were bad or because anyone was mean or disrespectful to me, but solely because I felt intimidated and inconfident around those who were confident and popular.
Today I'm pleased to say that I've evolved far beyond that painfully shy soul I used to be, and I'm especially happy that I've been able to find and befriend many of you via facebook. It is an incredible blessing to finally be a part of Dublin High School society, alumni, the Class of '79. You're all terrific, high-quality people, and I'm blessed and honored to have you as friends.
I did have a few friends: many thanks to Joe Rodriguez, my buddy back then who tried so hard to include me in things and make me feel wanted. Joe has long had a special knack for pleasing people, which makes it no surprise that he's developed a successful catering business, Valley Catering.
Also, Dale Flynn was another long-time friend of mine I'd met when we were in the Third Grade or so. We grew close during our latter high school years. Dale was one of the few people who truly accepted me...Expand for more
. We didn't have many things in common, but Dale was a True Blue friend, nonetheless.
I also had a lot of fun with the Simpson brothers, Dave and Ken. We had in common "Band" and our musical interest and Doobie-smoking.
Lorri Caskey was an especially great friend. We met in the Sixth Grade, Frederiksen, when she'd first moved to California from her native Idaho. Lorri always had a smile for everyone and such a cheerful demeanor.
I can't remember how, but Margie Richardson and I somehow hooked-up. I went bowling with her and her mother, and we mucked around for a spell. I guess we were an example of how 'opposites attract' - she being such an extrovert and I being such an introvert. I had great times with her, and Margie was one of the few who could put a smile on my face and brighten my too often dismal days.
Debbie Cool, Margie's great friend, is a friend I should've gotten to know, as not only is Debbie a terrific person (voted Friendliest of the Class of '79 in our Senior yearbook), but Debbie was a part of Margie's circle of friends. To this list, I also add Bobby O'Sullivan, who was also in Margie and Debbie's circle. I'm happy to say that Debbie Cool and I are in constant communication and becoming great friends!
Again, it's great to be among you all through Classmates, facebook, or through any other means possible.
