Shelley's Story
OK, I guess the words/phrases that sume up my life are: Survivor and Late Bloomer. It has taken me years to complete my degree, which I received last year. In my 50's, I enrolled online at Ashford U in Iowa; my major was changed from Communications to Psychology. It was ideal for me, working part time, and managing a chronic condition--type 2 diabetes. I graduated Magna Cum Laude, having taken all my prior credits from 20-30 years ago at RIC. It was actually training and experience in voluntary capacities which led me to this path of education. I have been a Stephen Minister (lay volunteer, for persons in crisis, etc), a Sunday School teacher, and manned a suicide/crisis hotline. Meanwhile I have labored to make corporations more prosperous. Unfulfilling.

th and belief in God have helped me survive crises like cancer and other situations. As a survivor, I desire to share hope and strength with others.
In May of this year, I am entering a program for chaplains, and will be interning at local hospitals. I cannot wait! I do not plan to go to a seminary or receive a Master's degree; what I want is to be the fish that is in the right pool, so to speak.
Along the way I discovered my love for writing--stories, etc that seem to be inside, waiting to be told. I turned some real life experiences into stories, and even a novel--it is sitting in my file cabinet, waiting 20 years for the next step. That is one reason I returned to school, to polish up my writing skills.
My husband and I have no children; we live in Riverside and love it there.
I am a good listener, either in person or online. Talk to me!
