Sheri's Story
Hello Everyone! Has it really been 20 years??!!!
After West Allegheny, I headed to Westminster College. I Graduated from college in 1992 and attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. I accepted a Navy Scholarship to do so. After finishing medical school, I stayed in the good old 'burgh to do my residency in General Surgery.
After residency, it was time to pay off the Navy commitment. They got their money's worth, that's for sure! After Sept 11, we headed out to sea on an aircraft carrier. We broke the US Navy record for the most days at sea without a port call...just hung out flying missions over Afghanistan. (So much for seeing the world after finally leaving Pittsburgh!)
My next duty station was in Jacksonville, FL. ...Expand for more
Our hospital supported the Marines so I found myself in the Iraqi desert doing surgery. Kind of like Mash, but not as luxurious. Still, it was an honor to take care of injured Marines. That lasted for just 6 months and then I finished out my Navy time back in Jacksonville, FL.
Oh yes, while in my last year of residency at Allegheny General Hospital I fell in love with one of my teachers. (Kind of like of like on Grey's Anatomy!) We married while I was in the Navy.
Ken and I now live in North Carolina with our two sweet little daughters. We both work in the same surgery practice. My mom is nearby helping us to take care of Hannah and Lauren. We are happy and feel very blessed.
