Sherie's Story

After high school I married, and divorced, and moved to Atlanta, GA, in 1980. I met my second X-husband in Atlanta. We moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1981, where I worked for a bank holding company, Hibernia Corporation, for 8 years. During that time, we had two beautiful daughters - Ellen in 1983 and Dorothy in 1987. In 1989 we moved to his hometown, Roanoke, Virginia. I went to work for a law firm as a floating legal assistant for a year or two and decided I wanted to help others, so went to work for the Legal Aid Society. Honorable place to work, lousy pay though! In 1993 I divorced husband #2, and resumed single life. In 1995 I went to work as office manager, legal assistant, paralegal, jack of all trades, master of none for a solo practitioner attorney who, in November 1995, was elected to his first term as a Senator in the Virginia General Assembly. I hate politics, but since I ran the legal end, I could pretty much stay out of that part! In 1996 we represented a gentleman on some domestic issues, who happened to have a very nice, interesting, and pretty good looking brother named Bob. He asked me out one day while at the office with his brother, and we went on our first date - we took my two daughters and his son, whom he had custody of, shopping the day after Thanksgiving! Wonderful date! Bob and I wound up seeing each other, falling in love, and pretty much raising the 3 kids together, but from separate houses. We didn't feel it was right to live together while the kids, then ages 14, 13 and 9, were in their impressionable years. He had gone through a very nasty divorce, and as he said, "the cheeks of my ass are still burning" so he had really cold feet when it came to marriage! In 2000, Bob moved back to Nashville, Tennessee, and resumed his dawdlings in the country music biz as a promoter and producer. He's also a published writer, having published a series of "guy blood and guts" books called the Overload series in the early '80's. I stayed behind in Virginia to get my youngest graduated from high school and ready to go out on her own. In 2005, I left Virginia and moved to Nashville with Bob and went to work as the office manager for a real JERK attorney - that lasted all of about 8 months! I took some time o...Expand for more
ff to recooperate from that and went to work in July 2006 as legal assistant in the Nashville office of Wilkes & McHugh, P.A, a law firm with 9 offices from coast to coast which does nothing but nursing home litigation. In August 2007, the powers that be at the firm decided to close the Nashville office and open one in Lexington, Kentucky. My attorney asked if I'd go with them and, having no kids to tie us down, we went! The office in Lexington opened March 2008. It's still close enough to Nashville for Bob to zip to the studio when he needs to, and we're quite content being on "the off ramp" of a smaller city. Leaving the hustle and bustle of the big city has been great inspiration for Bob to start writing again, and he's just finished a book. We're waiting on good news (hopefully!) from a movie producer in LA and his literary agent in NY. Keeping our fingers crossed! Bob and I finally married, after 12 years, December 2008. Trust me - 3rd time is a charm!! We rented a chalet in Gatlinburg, with son Rob and his wife Amber, daughter Ellen and her husband Jonathan, and daughter Dorothy and her fiance Paul, in attendance. We exchanged vows, in our blue jeans, in front of the fireplace at the chalet. It was PERFECT!! A little about our kids..... Rob, Bob's son and now my son (but really has been for the last 12 years), graduated from Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia, and is a Conservation Police Officer at the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and Special Federal Agent in Augusta and Rockingham Counties. His wife, Amber, is a counselor for a juvenile agency in Augusta County, Virginia. They are also foster respite parents, taking foster children on the weekends to give foster parents a break. Ellen, my oldest daughter, graduated from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia in 2005 and went immediately to work for the Virginia Department of Charitable Gaming in Richmond, Virginia, where she is steadily advancing. Her husband, Jonathan works for Napa Auto Parts in Richmond. Dorothy, my youngest daughter, is a lead teller at a small bank, Valley Bank, in Roanoke, Virginia. Her husband (as of 2 days ago - June 6, 2009!) is the manager of Play It Again Sports in Roanoke. Watch for pics of us and family soon!
