Sherilyn's Story
I am happily married to classmate Frank Slawinski for 22 years. We are looking forward to our 25th as we plan to renew our vows at a double ceremony with my parents who will be celebrating their 50th anniversary that same month.
We have 2 sons, Joe and Tim. Joe is 19 and is in his 2nd year of college. He will be a Biology HS teacher. Tim is 17. He is a junior in HS. He has decided to go to U of I and be a computer engineer as his father is. He plays the flute and does very well.
I am no longer working as an RN as I am now disabled. I miss it terribly. It was a wonderful profession to be in. I worked with cancer patients and then worked in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Loyola. I loved the BMTU job tremendously.
I now have an internet business selling dolls and porcelain that is quite enjoyable. I have been learning to restore old dolls which is fun for me. I loved dolls as a child, and I love them now and collect.
My hobbies are silk-floral arranging and drawing. I also can cross stitch but haven't been doing that lately. I also do the doll restoration. I find the dingiest doll I can find and make a beauty out of it! It's fun!
I lead quite a busy life dispite my handicaps and am never ever bored.
I just hope that others have found the happiness in marriage that we have found. It is so rewarding but also very hard work too!
How do I hope old friends remember me? Lighthearted, caring, helpful, giving and fun. I al...Expand for more
so stuck to my guns about morals i.e. drinking, drugs, and sex. I never got caught up in this. The picture of me now is not how I want to be remembered. I want my old friends to remember me as I was in high school and college, before I became ill.
I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right.
What's the wildest thing you ever did in school? Well, I was a "good girl" so the worst I can think of was cutting gym class and having breakfast with my boyfriend.
Do you have a hero? My hero was my grandmother (mother's mother). She was a very special lady who was honored and respected by all. She was kind, giving, nonjudgemental, fun, and my very best friend. She died in 1992 and I still miss her.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Karen Krezmenski (sp). We were very close friends for a while and I miss her. She was one year older in school. If I ever see her I'm going to join very fast to try to reach her.
To be truly happy, you would be where, doing what, with whom? Just where I am. I am truly happy (except being sick of course)
You get one do-over. What do you do differently?
I would not have gone to Pensacola Christian College.
My first job was at McDonalds, where I got paid $2.90/hour to clean, register, serve . What I remember most about it is that this job was so much fun! I worked there for almost 5 years.
