Sherman's Story
Life
After graduation from Holland Patent High School in 1964, I went to MIT, graduating in 1964. I worked for Photon, Inc., in Wilmington, Massachusetts, American District Telegraph Company in New York City, then Cornell University as a programmer, before starting graduate school there in 1970. I met Suzanne Lindamood in a graduate class, and we got married in 1972. We both completed Ph.D. degrees in January 1974, having started as faculty members at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale the previous fall. We later taught at Auburn University and Kansas State University, started the journal Housing and Society, wrote a textbook, Housing, Society and Consumers, and worked on other research ...Expand for more
together. Our daughter Emily was born in Manhattan, Kansas in 1977, and Suzanne was elected to the City Commission there, serving a term as mayor. I went to Ohio State University in 1986, and Suzanne and Emily moved there in 1987. Suzanne enrolled in the Law School at Ohio State and after completing her J.D., became a staff attorney with the Ohio Legislature. I was chair of the Family Resource Management Department from 1986 to 1994, and since have enjoyed teaching undergraduates, advising graduate students, and conducting research. We have visited Europe and Asia a number of times, for conferences and vacations. Our daughter Emily graduated from MIT in 2000 and is now a Ph.D. student at Cornell.
