Sherry's Story
Life
I'm thrilled to be alive!! We got RPG'd on New Year's Eve 2004; I heard the explosions, saw the smoke trails above me, and discovered later that two duds had fallen unexploded about 300 meters from where I stood.
Other brothers and sisters-in-arms (God bless them) did not make it out of Iraq alive. I am grateful to them for the sacrifices they made to keep America and the rest of the world free from terrorism. I am forever humbled and will eternally be grateful to God who brought me back alive so I could be with my family again.
The memories come back to me every now and then, and I feel whole again:

ide of Wurzburg or Rothenburg ob der Tauber and just drive around and think of Hansel and Gretel or the Ewoks in the forests of Mendocino County (Battle for Endor).
I had a love/hate relationship with Germany. The country was beautiful, but I just couldn't grasp how people could have attempted to destroy another race. When I felt myself getting lulled into a sense of indifference I would jolt myself awake by visiting Dachau, Bergen-Belsen, or even Verdun, the last remaining battle site of 20th century trench warfare (taking nothing away from the battles for Al-Fallujah and Ar-Ramadi).
I can never fully forget how so close Death came knocking at our door. Life is so fleeting, so precious. I wish I could somehow convey the urgency of living life to the fullest and truly appreciating what we have in this lifetime and squeezing every ounce of living from the smallest moment that we are granted on earth.
