Sherry's Story

Life Hey ya'll, I'm on this site because I wanted to ask a recently added person Jeff Jenkins if he was Jon Jenkin's bro, an old friend,....and he was! So, I did the 3 month pay for that question, but it was worth it. Anyway, since I did all that, I thought I might as well do the profile. After high school I scrambled to get a nursing degree, partly in Danbury, Ct where mom relocated, and finished at Saddleback (7 years later since I put myself through....whew). I worked at Childrens in OC....then after 2 years of Cancer care (yikes) in 86 I moved to Encinitas so I could live and work by the beach. At 30 I was really ready for a change thus the move. Well, I met my awesome and handsome husband the next year, the son of a cardiac patient at Scripps La Jolla (long story, and something I thought I'd never do :) ) We married in 1990....ya, I know a late bloomer getting married at 34 but that was how life went, and I had a great time before yet with all of the challenges too. We had Tommy in 93, our beautiful only child, blond, blue eyed electric guitar playing (yes Led Zeppelin) body boarding 14 year old who is now 3 inches taller than me. He is off to high school here in Carmel Valley where I have lived since 87 (the San Diegito Unified District the one Torry Pines is in...it is a new public school academy in the district) and Carmel Valley is next to Del Mar. We live in a "mouse house" as we call it. The tiny little "paired home" was supposed to be for a few years and then to move on. Well, you all know what happened to the market. Here we are 13 years later! Dave is an Electrical Engineer MS and works in Carlsbad at VIASAT as a lead hardware engineer with Satelite Communications. I robbed the cradle finding this prince at 6 years my junior (maybe that is why I left OC, too many unavailable guys....) San Clemente sorta fadded sadly for me after 74, with mom and dad divorcing and me living in about 10 different places before settl...Expand for more
ing here. I dearly miss SC. I drive on my old street of Calle Marina off Ola Vista when in town to see Nina Prettyman, pause, stop myself from crying when I see all the changes to the house every time I stop (it is gorgeous by the way, two story now and really wierd to see). I seem to see ghosts of the past. SC was so sweet having lived there from 56 to 86 (with a few changes towads the end like Santa Ana to be close to Children's, yuck). So for all of you who were blessed to stay, and still have family there I am truly happy for you. And for you who have lost parents due to age, by heart goes out to you. I retired as a nurse at 40. I decided 22 years of medical work was enough and I stayed home with Tommy. I was only working 6 12 hour shifts a month anyway and Dave stayed home with Tommy. So it wasn't much of a change really. Well except for that change of income! So maybe that is why we never moved up to a bigger house! Mom, wife, gardener, cook and CEO of the home seems to be the perfect fit for me. Dave was relieved with my decision...tired of hearing the nightmares about work during the night. And I did get sick from all of the adrenal drain from the line of work I did. It was worth it. God used me, and it was a gift to serve. Remember when it was really rare to see a girl surf in the 60's and early 70's? Well, I started body boarding a few years ago. I am in heaven (with moments of why am I doing this?! when an outside set rolls in). So at 50 I start to worry a bit. I pray I don't hurt myself. But I have found my ocean muse and maybe I'll get my full health back (diagnosed with Bipolar disorder 5 years ago after a few years of clinical depression) and can refind my artistic muse as well. I was only at SC high for Jr. and half of senior (early grad) so my bond with school wasn't as strong as it could have been. But having lived in town my whole life I felt I belonged. God bless, and I wish you all much peace, Sherry
