Sherry's Story

Life Traveling to Florida after graduating mid-term early from Bloomington North High School 1975, I played for many years. A Disco Queen I danced every night after work at numerous Discos, competed in dance competitions, and partied hearty. Between marriage, having my one beautiful son, divorce, and raising that beautiful son by myself (he'll be 25 years old this Christmas), I've traveled most of the U.S. and even more of Europe over the years. I worked for Walt Disney MGM Studios in Orlando for 7 years, I taught TV/Film Production at Orlando College for 2 years and worked in TV and Video production for over 25 years altogether. I even worked with a company based in Scotland, UK where I traveled to quite often. Arguing with FL schools about my son's A.D.D., I had to move somewhere he would get a better education and just so happens the company I was working for wanted to open a West Coast office - we were on our way to a new adventure, me 36, my son 11 yrs old, we did our best to make Seattle work for 10 years. No one would hire me due to my career in Production or Theme Parks or Teaching...they somehow couldn't picture how all of my versatile skills could help them...DUH!! Diagnosed with Bone Marrow Cancer in 1998, life became a horrible Monster, even harder for my loving son. Leaving Seattle was still very hard, but family were worried and wanted me to come back to Florida because after my transplant 4/20/98 the cancer still had a good hold on me and I was very sick and my doctor in Seattle said I should be with family. Kansas only lasted for 4 months and that just wasn’t long enough. My father played a horrible trick and stranded us as William was to start K-State, we ended up in Florida for 3 years and every day sucked! Medical sucked, the humid, sticky, heated, buggy days are gone for me, gone forever, I'll never go back (unless it's FREE to see my family), but I'd rather they come here to God's country. So after 3 years and NO medical attention I've retur...Expand for more
ned to the best Oncologist in the land who will continue his great work in keeping me alive. Seattle has grown in leaps and bounds in some ways and in others beautiful Seattle hasn't changed at all. It's the most scenic place you could imagine, snow-capped mountains on both the East and West views, lakes everywhere, there is no place else like it. I received a drug made specifically for my type of cancer in 2004 and I have gained about 3+ years as the cancer has been stable, but anything could happen. Now that I'm back under the care of my Seattle doctor I know I'll have another 5 years. Besides, the cancer won't kill me the chemo will. I hope I still have time to see William marry, which he is very close to that option, maybe in 2008. That is so weird to say "2008" when I remember reading "1984" in the 6th grade, I think it was? We are no where near where I thought we as a country would be...we're a hell'av'a lot worse! My wonderful son, from my one marriage, moved here first for a job with Microsoft, they love him, and he loves them AND the huge starting wage. With no college, no certifications, my son is working with one of the richest companies in the World, I couldn't be prouder if he were running the country, which I wish he were compared to the ass who is right now. While we were in Kansas I got to see a lot of friends including one I went to kindergarten with, Donna Reichert (Nanninga). Matter of fact the still young and beautiful Donna and Raneta Ferris took me to lunch on my 46th birthday, what a great present. Boy did we laugh and talk about growing up in Riley and what ever happened to so-n-so, and remember when Mrs. Haas did...it was a good day. Looking forward to hearing from you. Ya better hurry because I never know how long I'll be living, then again I may not hear from you because I have to pay just to hear from you. All that I get for free is the ability to post, that's it. Ah Well... Sherry Norris (Young-birth name, Holroyd-married name)
