Sherry's Story
Graduated high school in 1968, got accepted to 3 colleges in Texas, decided not to go. Moved to Houston and worked for Daniel Industries, Inc, Coco-Cola Food Div., Kip's Big Boy, and joined U.S Air Force active duty forces after being in the USAF Reserves for approximately 1 year. Went to Lackland AFB for basic training, then to Wichita Falls (Sheppard AFB) for Communications Operator training. This career field was so expansive I never worked all of it or even saw all of the equipment. My first base was in the Republic of the Philippines on Luzon Island at Clark AB (Los Angles City). That was a very enlightening and educational 15 month tour. marshall law was established while I was there, so we had to be careful where we went (as well as when and with who). nt to Kirkland AFB, N.M. Found out there that I had contracted tuberculosis in the Philippines. So I was rapidly reassigned to Scott AFB, Illinois for a 3 year treatment and hospital stay. Was cured (glad to say) and finished up 21 year career at Beale AFB, Eielson AFB and finally retired out of Offutt AFB (SAC HQs now STRATCOM HQs) in Nebraska as a TSgt. MSgt was just out of reach, couldn't seem to get it. Picked up a few college credits while I was in but no degree. Got into banking after I retired from military (mortgages and mortgage insurance and escrows). Got out of that to take care of my current
spouse. Two children from previous marriage, one
step son and 4 grandchildren. Love traveling in our 5th wheel, gardening and various other outdoor and indoor activities. To quote a friend: " Everyday is Saturday"
